Hi all,

Just when I thought things were getting better...WHAM!

OK, I need you advice on a truly terrifying experience! Worst of all I was driving when it happened.

When I woke up yesterday, I didn't feel right, but couldn't quite put my finger on what it was. When I looked in the mirror, I didn't even look right, kind of distorted. I chalked it up to the excessive heat we've been having and pressed on.

Jumped in the car (duh) and headed on the highway (double duh) to my boyfriends house. Halfway there, I noticed my perception was off, I was having difficulty staying in my lane, and felt like other cars were drifting into my lane. My upper lip began to twitch and curl upward...I looked like an angry dog!!! http://www.thelupussite.com/public_html/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/shaun.gif
It was too late to turn back so I kept driving. By the time I got to his house, I was downright drunk. Unsteady on my feet, slurring/studdering my words and giddy http://www.thelupussite.com/public_html/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif
My face continued to twitch (violently at times). He begged me to go to the hospital, but I refused...and refused...and refused! Five hours later I "sobered up" and was left with a dreadful migraine.
Now that I am thinking clearly, I am terrified..the reality of what happened has hit me like a ton of bricks. I don't think Ive ever been this scared. My doctor is on vacation this week..but I will try his office later anyway.

Does this mean that lupus is lurking in my brain somewhere? My boyfriend thought it may have been an anxiety attack, but I don't see where the facial muscle spasms fit in there.

Any ideas?
Sharon

hi sharon, this experience must have been terrifying. you could have had a panic attack, i've had them when driving and its awful. sounds like it could have something to do with the migraine, there is a type of migraine where you see auras (sp), flashing lights, things are distorted in your vision. please, please get this checked out asap, if it is from the migraine, there are medications you can take when these strange symptoms first start, i take Zomig, if you leave it too long before you take it, the zomig will not work. let us know what the dr says. take care. helen.

Hi Sharon

I have been there, done that - and got the T-shirt as they say http://www.thelupussite.com/public_html/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif

I don't want to worry you, but, in my case, the experience was caused by a stroke - which, in turn, was caused by Hughes Syndrome http://www.thelupussite.com/public_html/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

I have also had very similar symtoms with a severe migraine - and this was also due to Hughes Syndrome http://www.thelupussite.com/public_html/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif

Please report these symptoms to your doctor as soon as possible - or go to your nearest ER.

I hope you feel better soon. Let me know what they say.

Love
Sannie
