I was dx'ed with a UTI about 2 weeks ago, GP put me on Cipro which I was allergic to and had to stop. Second drug of choice was Levaquin (sp?) 1 for 10 days. Finished that and now about three - four days later having the same symptoms again, Not really burning when I go pee just hurts and never completely empties out. Also severe pain in lower right section of tummy (no ovaries, had Hysterectomy) makes me double over at times. Called GP again this morning and nurse said he would probably call something else in.
Is this normal?? I feel like my bladder is having spasms most of the time.
I am prone to have adhesions from previous surgeries and wonder if this could be part and parcel of problem?? Was told two years ago I need another Lapro to clean me out again and have been putting it off.

Hi there

I dont think this sounds like a lupus problem but whatever is causing these symptoms needs investigating and treating appropiately.

Did they do a urine culture to see if any infection was present?

Please see your doctor ASAP and let us know what happens.

Take care.

Love

Hi,

I think you should request a 24 hour urine if your symptoms have not cleared up...Im really against taking strong antibiotics without a doctor seeing me! Please insist on an appointment.

I agree this needs fully tested by a lab, before any firther decisions are made.
Sometimes we take longer to clear up with these infections, than the normal dose and it is common to keep taking the drug until the thing is completely gone.

"complicated" UTIs frequently require more than the standard 7-10 days of the quinolones. Having SLE means that yours probably falls in that category. I am very hard on docs, but have never known of one to recommend a lap to clean up adhesions unless they really really thought it was a really really good idea.
It is POSSIBLE that you have scarring or adhesions that are making you more prone to UTIs, which you really don't need with SLE.
In my non-doc personal opinion, make sure you have an infection, make sure the doc knows you have SLE, clear up the infection!!!
THEN, check out the adhesion thing...
Take care of you, you are the only you you get!!!3forme

Hi yellowrose,

I would just add to this (from my complicated history with Cipro!) that it can cause crystals of uric acid to form whcih hurt like ****! The best thing you can do for that I'm afraid is to drink lotsa water. However as everyone has said you need to figure out what specifically is going on. Good luck!!!

Thanks so much for the info.... I did go back to my GP and he did a culture and put me back on another round of levaquin. Got to take for 7 more days and then go back for another culture. He is aware of the SLE, I guess I am just a little down now. I haven't slept all night in about a week due to joint and muscle pain (another flare) got the pretty blush on my face. The Rhuemy has me down to 10 on pred and severely limits my Ultram. I used to keep that around all the time but now feel like I have to hoard it "just in case it gets worse" just really really tired of everything right now.
Thanks
