Hello everyone,

I went to my doctors today because the steroid cream I have been using is not working. He's given me another and because I can't tolerate Plaquenil, they're going to try Mepacrine!

I also mentioned that while I wait for my appt with the derm - should I drink Indian Tonic water (which contains quinine) he said there would no harm in it as long as i limited the amount I drank. He also said that the idea of homeopathy would certainly do no harm as long as he and the other experts knew about it.

I have now started a homeopathic treatment which lasts 5 days - I'll let you know if there is any improvement in my condition.

Boy, I have been doing my homework - it's never good too rely too much on the doc's so I've been scouring the net to get opinions from Lupus specialists.
Knowledge is a good thing.

Love and good wishes to you all

I am glad the doc has started you on Mepacrine which might take some time to reach full effect, however skin problems should show definite improvement within a couple of months.
It is well known that homeopathic, by which I guess you mean herbal, medications are very slow working.

Like all meds , assuming the plants have any medicinal properties they can affect other systems and organs in the body. Many plants can increase photosensitivity and cause photo toxicity.

Nobody ever starts two medications at the same time unless in life threatening situations because it's impossible to say which might be causing any side effects.

There are no known *alternatives* that can influence the disease process.

Cheers and good luck

Thanks to everyone for their Good Luck wishes,

I am not seeing my Derm until June 18 so have a month to go before I change medication - My GP stated that he would like to wait until derm has seen me before change. I started with the topical ointment synalar yesterday and it has helped the rash on my chest - thank goodness :P

As mentioned, I started a homeopathic remedy yesterday and I feel better as the brain fog seems to have lifted today. Still don't know if it will make me feel better - I know there is no cure but if I can alleviate some of the symptoms mental or physical then I'm going to have a darn good try!!

Will keep you informed.

Sannie: there are various papers published from worldwide experts on lupus - It's a matter of surfing the net. I didn't make a note of the one regarding ulcers - sorry!

LOL
