Hello Telebird and Welcome !
You will get no better treatment anywhere in the world than at St Thomas' so count yourself very lucky ! :)
It's generally agreed that the happier a person feels the more likely they'll feel well too.
Flares are often associated with stress and unhappiness.
I am quite sure that you are feeling better too because you are getting helpful treatment !
Walaa there are no successful alternative treatments whatver anybody tells you
Please read through the threads here about this - the great risks that people take with their lives and futures by not getting the right treatment
The medicines you are on are life savers. Some have serious side effects but you will not be kept on them longer than is necessary.
There are good chances that you will go into remission and lead a normal life.
I think the doctor was joking really when he said you'll feel better when you are married ! Perhaps he meant that you'll feel happier.
As you say, marriage isn't the cure for lupus LOL is that good news or bad , and lupus sure isn't the cure for marriage.
Lots of Luck and I hope you will be feeling well and happy very soon.
Have faith in your doctors - they are The Best !

hi telebird, i think it is only natural that we should wonder if there is a better alternative to the drugs us lupies must take - but at present there isnt one. there is no miracle cure unfortunately, i wish there was. lupus is a very complex disease. when i was first sick i looked for answers"why am i sick", "there is a cure out there i just have to find it", i finally realised there are no answers and no cure.
on the positive side there are treatments available to us that can help us lead a fairly normal life. these drugs can prevent lupus progressing to our organs and causing trouble. there are good drs out there (takes a while to find one, lol) who will help us.
on this site you will find the emotional support you need, people here are kind, helpful and willing to share their lupus journey. i wish you the best, please join us again in the chat roon. take care. helen.

Hi Telebird
Welcome to the boards where you will find lots of information and support.
First of all, you are extremely fortunate to be treated at St Thomas' Hospital, where, as you must know, they have a world renowned lupus unit led by Dr Graham Hughes who has worked with your doctor for many years.
You could not wish to be treated by a more eminent doctor who is doing all that he can to make you feel better.
Having spoken to you in the chat room, I remember you said that your doctor told you that you would be alright when you got married IF you continue to take your medication which has no doubt saved your life.
You are now feeling better because of the medication you are taking - and because you feel better you are much happier too!
I feel sure your doctor would have told you if he felt there was an alternative medication/therapy for you to use so rather than worry about alternative therapies I suggest you follow the advice your doctor at St Thomas' has given you otherwise you may become very ill again.
Remember there is no cure for lupus and if it is not treated correctly it can lead to life threatening complications.
Take care.
Love
Sannie

Medications change with our health. If we are in bad way, up goes the medication of various items, when things improve, we go off them or lower the dosage.
Sounds like you are having a bout of depression, have you mentioned this to the doctor you are seeing now?
