Okay, one more thing please (this is my last new post for awhile...AND it will be short and sweet--well, for me anyway!). Thanks...

My cardiologist is sending me to another specialist for circulation probs. (persistent edema, esp. in legs). My question is: do any of you have this symptom: legs feel heavy, can't stand (or sit) for any length of time (even 20 mins.); painless twitching (spasms?) in legs/calves (I also have twitching in left arm); back of legs feel like veins bulging and burning (but apparantly not, but I do have some varicose veins); and hips are also achey (from upper to lower areas, and sometimes near buttocks)?

I thought the cardiologist would say this was heart related. But no. And my lipids (cholesterol) are okay. I've had edema for years, but it's gotten worse and my legs have gotten so achey, etc., sometimes I can't sleep.

Thanks again! Keep Singing!

Hello, I twitch and jerk my arms around. It is very tiresome, worst at night and when I sit down to relax and that is often because I am so tired. I have varicouse viens which I wear a stocking for. Also the water collects in my legs. I take a dieritic for that and it helps. I have high blood pressure 110/160 also I have tachycardia. Both of which I am on medication for. As to answers why I am like this just blame it on the Lupus or say it phycological. I give up with the NHS.

Maria.... the twitching I'm talking about is painless and I don't "jerk" my arm or legs. They just...flutter (like a spasm, I guess). I take a diuretic, also. The spasms (?) may just be weakness. I'm busy, but not aerobically active. Maybe b/c of my heart going into rapid rhythms. So when they fix my heart this next week (ablation) I should be good to go (unless it's a circulation prob.). I sure wish you well. Thanks for sharing! :)

Anyone else have the symptoms I mentioned in my original post here above?

Thanks!

I used to have similar symptoms, particularly the 'fluttering' of muscles. It was not cardiac related, though I suspect the heart condition did stir things up.
My lower legs, well the ankle area still swell daily and have done so for years, but I have a heart condition anyway. The problems were put down to fibro, but I did notice than WHEN I finally healed up from heart surgery, the 'weakness' and 'fluttering' went.

Hi Geri,
I'm not a doctor but your legs sound like mine feel. The doctor told me it was Restless Leg Syndrome. I take Elavil for mine, it works wonders. The feelings I have in my legs are the worst thing I've ever felt and are almost impossible to explain. Ask your doc about RLS. I hope this will help some.

Hi Geri
I'm newly dx'd discoid lupus. I was going to post same type of question. I also have been experiencing...hard to put in words..
twitching? in legs at bedtime Actually feels more like my legs
"jump" but never actually do and it's so quick...maybe 1 sec
really strange! I've recently started Celexa for depression and I asked my gp if it could be cause..he said it
could be myoclonic(twitching ,spasms of muscles, intermit) in part
due to I'm more relaxed now..Go figure.. Although, I've had a few
total body episodes hmmmm...I don't feel that relaxed!! This too
is just at bedtime. I'm going to speak w/him more about this.
I have on few occasions, some time ago, experienced what I believe to be Restless leg syndrome(in bed) in which you can't keep your legs still (very frustrating) If this continues, I'll have to
change my name to lupietwitch! Best wishes :flowers: Suzan

Right..I posted on this a few months ago..the census was that it was probably Restless leg syndrome and I take a muscle relaxer before bed and it seems to have lessened the problem considerably..My doctor concurred with my lovely friends here...RLS!

Restless Leg Syndrome can be a problem, I had a bout of it during the summer, the first one in years, I have often wondered of the Plaquenil took care of the problem.

Geri,
I haven`t posted on this site for some time as I`m still undiagnosed and feeling terribly ill but your legs struck a chord.
My legs feel like they are not mine. They are swollen, especially at back of calves. Can`t lie on my back in bed comfortably. They are dead yet feel like there`s an electric current running through them (or like they`re full of tiny wriggling worms). I get 2 kinds of jerking - the first is highly visible, the second totally internal (this type I also get in my abdomen - over in a split second - some drs have called it myoclonal jerking.) Legs are also discoloured - purple/blue around knees, patchy elsewhere. Skin is very dry and fatty tissue is lumpy (like giant dose of cellulite. GP tells me it`s ageing - my foot. Peg

Hi Geri,

hope your legs are treating you a little better lately... How long does the heaviness & pain last? Does it come & go or is it with you most times?

I get heavy aching legs (thighs, calves & sometimes hips) quite a lot. It happens more frequently when I'm feeling generally run down. It reminds me of the pain I used to get as a teenager, which was explained away as 'growing pains' (though, unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be making me grow any taller now... )

I find it can help to elevate my feet (stick them up against the wall) for at least half an hour.

Or, a gentle stretching session (though initially painful) can sometimes work wonders.

(I should mention that I'm undiagnosed & don't know if any of this relates to lupus)

Hope you find out what's going on soon.
