Hey Everyone,

Velvet was just dx. with Lupus in June. She has been sick for 4 yrs. and is in the worst flare she has ever had. She starts college on August 20th. I have read many of your post stating that surgery can sometimes send you into a flare, or make a flare worst. She started on 5mg of Predisone and 200mg of Plaq. twice a day 1 week ago. Her dentist says that we should have her wisdom teeth removed because the bottom ones are growing sideways and pushing on the bottom teeth. This would be a day surgery, they would have to be cut out, because she is 17 and they have not yet come out. I was just wondering what your opinions were. If you were faced with this situation, what would you do. Would you have the surgery during a flare or wait until the meds. start to work and you are not flaring??I know that we will have to decide what to do, just wondering what your opinion would be!!

Thank You,
Love, Cindy

Cindy,

I agree that you need to talk with her rheumy.
Sometimes they put us on anti-biotics even to have regualr dental work done.

Thank You So Much Girls,

I am planning on talking to her rheumy. It is just that after everything we have been thru with drs. I trust you guys more than them. He can give me his medical opinion and you guys can give a personal opinion!! Thanks again for the advice!!

Love, Cindy

Mine, the skin had to be cut to get to them and all 4 were totally rotten. My advice is to get rid of them, but I agree with the others, go onto antibiotics just beforehand and for a period afterwards. The dentist should know that anyway.

Hi Cindy.........Can the procedure be put off for awhile?
If she is already in a flare, it might get worse.
Not too sure what to suggest, but I hope all turns out OK. love gladm. :luck: :flowers:

Hi Cindy

I certainly think you need to discuss this with her rheumatologist.

I also feel you should seek further medical help if she is still not feeling any better after being on her meds for a week.

The pred should have helped but maybe she needs a higher dose.

I can hardly see her starting college unless she improves drastically over the next week or so.

If her wisdom teeth are impacted, and the rhuemy okays it, go for it!!! They would probably put her on antobiotics before and after. AND make sure she gets good pain control for after.

It was one of the best things I ever did, I had two soft impactions(wouldn't grow out but stuck in soft tissue) and two bony(wouldn't grow out, stuck in bone). I had not realized how much they contributed to feeling bleaaak. I made sure to REST IN BED the day after. I had one dry socket, easily remedied with one stitch. I had put it off from 17 to 23. Six years of headache!
This is just my personal experience!!!!!
Discuss this with the rhuemy and the oral surgeon!
I hope she feels better, two BIG teeth pushing sideways on her other teeth can NOT be helping her feel better. :nurse:
