this is a report of a small study about estogen patches and clots.

I also have some other studies that I must dig out and post, as I think this is terribly important information for women with autoimmune disease.

So often we are on long term prednisone (my maintenance dose is 20mg), and estrogen is terribly important for bone health.

Many of us go through menopause prematurely due to iv cytoxan, I myself went through menopause 20 years earlier than my mother due to iv cytoxan.

I really need estrogen to help maintain my bone strength, plus of course I am on etidronate and calcium (etidronate is a similar drug to fosamax).

So I use an estradiol patch with the blessing of my rheumie (I have aps, with previous arterial clots and stroke)

I look forward to further studies being done

This articles requires a Medscape registration .... it only takes a few moments, and there is a wealth of information of a wide range of topics there

Thanks Raglet, I also take calcium and etidronate. I also had a early menopause, never had HRT, and of course family failing I do have Osteo. I do not have APS, but I clot up large. The clots have been the cause of my heart attacks too.

hi raglet....i think we need to be very careful on this one....HRT and APS is a very debatable issue and one i think shoulod be dealt with by patient and consultant....there are many studies flying around ,just last week here in the UK there was a debate about HRT and breast cancer....i really think we need to tread very carefully with this one.

Well i think this is a funny issue chris is right, we have had lots on the news about it, and i for one on the way back from the hospital threw mine off, i think it landed on a cows bum in a field, well i hope it was a cow and not a bull lol, my rheumy did however not like this patch, but after all the news that was enough for me anyway, I think we all have to make are own mind up on this one.

linda
