View Full Version : Your Code Name
Pickles
07-29-2004, 02:54 AM
HI,
I thought of this last night when I couldn't go to sleep again!!!! I was wondering how you came up with your "code name" or the one you go by on here.
As most of you know, My "code" name is Pickles which is my 20 year old cat's name. I just thought that was cute and I used it. My real name is Willene which I actually am not very fond of. In school, I would get called Wylene, Willnell, Willanee, or even William which is a boy's name. I had a substitute teacher who would just look at the book and say William. After the first few times, I would just say "here." A couple of guys behind me would say, "IT"S WILLENE!!!! Next time, she substituted she'd say William again. Willene is pronounced Will lean, my mother thought it was cute, she put my father's name which was William(but he went by Willie)and her name which is Kathleen together and I've regretted it ever since.
Just thought it might be interesting and fun to learn how you came up with yours
Thanks,

Hi Pickles, interesting thread!
Mine is the name I am known by in the Pagan community. Many of us use pseudonyms, because even in these enlightened times, we are still subject to considerable discrimination.
Basically, I follow a Shamanic path, and my Power Animal is Wolf. I am also unable to walk without the aid of a stick.
Hence, LameWolf. Simple, eh? ;)
My real name is Janie.

I had to think of something that I wouldn't forget  but it is connected with family names so it made it easier for me. Nothing like my real name which is Debbie or Debra as my mum still calls me :D
birdie
A friend picked my name for me a few years ago. :whisper: "QueSue" looked better then "CueSue" so we thought. I hadn't thought of a better name since so I'm still using it. My name is Susan and back then I spent a lot of time playing pool.

karattmom
07-29-2004, 01:40 PM
My name is the one I first started using when I started on the internet........made up of the first initial of each of my kids names.....karatt and then of course I'm their mom. For a bit I would add a new initial as I had a child....karratt, then kkarratt and now would be kkarrattsmom......but I tend to go back to the more simple karattmom......a lot of places, I've just changed to MomofMany, but I like the karatt better.....LOL

07-29-2004, 04:32 PM
My name is obviously just what I think ...children are treasures :) :) !
I have 5 children and hope for more. My husband comes from a family of 11 and I'm hoping to give Momma a "run for her money"   . I'm just kidding of course but I absolutely love everything about having children and being a mom and I would like to have a large family. When my father-in-law was alive he told me that my four was "a good start" :D . At 27 I think that I'm getting a good start as well and I'm praying that I am pregnant at the moment; I've still got a few days to wait before I can take a test so I'm just trying to be patient. My anniversary is on the 12th so I plan on "surprising" my husband with the news if there's news to give  . Anyway, I've strayed completely from the topic so I'll sign off...I just had to share with someone    !

Great thread! It's been fun reading the responses. I got mine from one of my hobbies....I carve designs and patterns into real egg shells.
I use any egg I can get....ostrich, emu, rhea, goose, chicken, duck....even have some christmas tree ornaments made out of quail eggs.
I like working with emu egg shells the best. These shells have three distinct layers, so depending on how deep you carve, you get a dark outer color, a lighter shade in the middle or the white inner layer....thus you can actually have "pictures' on the shells.
Other types of carving I do are "open designs" where a pattern is cut through the shell and some of them I have placed small electric lights into the bottom of the shell so the light shines up the inside of the egg, illuminating the cut pattern.

Great Thread! My name here is pretty self explanatory. It's exactly what I was feeling and who I was at that time. I still find myself pretty confused a lot of the time concerning this "illness" "disease" whatever. :hehe: My real name is Sunny. Most of my screen names include the syllables tex (I'm from texas originally) and sun (from my name). I don't know why I didn't use those when I first came here, except I think I was so very overwhelmed at the time that confusion was the only thing I could consider. :sigh:
Hope to see you all in chat soon!!

Hi
when i first started using computers in 1996 i joined AOL like most people. They suggested dsmith9000  , mmmm, there really only is one of me :hyper: so that was appropriate so i crossed the name of my favourite car with my favourite name and Xavtia was born, unique like me ;) :hehe:

07-30-2004, 12:25 AM
I like this thread it is very interesting! My daughter used to call butterflies flutterbyes, and I always likes butterflies, lots of them, real and pretend around. I have two businesses that use a butterfly logo, and that was before i was diagnosed with lupus, and saw that lupus often is assosiated with a butterfly, so it seemed to knid of fit. Am trying to talk my hub into buying me a butterfly tatoo for christmas at the moment!

07-30-2004, 12:32 AM
Hi
Neat topic !!
My name is PU- KEK- O not anything related to puke. A pukeko is a native bird of New Zealand. They are beautiful to look at, they mate for life and spend thier time around rivers and lakes. I think they are really neat and love to watch them !!
My husband and I spent 6 years in NZ and before we came back I collected all things pukeko !!
My name is Lisa. If you wish to shorten pukeko I prefer pukey or pukie - please not puke

well I'm not in denile but I live a couple miles off the nile. It seemed appropriate. Ofcourse it may seem out of place when I go back home in a couple of years, or sooner, or even later. The company has no clue how long we will be in Egypt.
This is a great thread. I've spent a good deal of time wondering where some of the names have come from.

07-30-2004, 05:50 AM
Great thread!!! Its really fun to see how people came up with their "names." I have been called Miss Priss since I was little. My dad started it and then my husband took it up. They say I'm prissy as a princess. I turned it into MizPriz because it looked more fun!!!

weedhopper
07-30-2004, 04:51 PM
Cute thread!
Weedhopper is the nickname my dad's called me for as long as I can remember. :D Apparently, my parents heard the saying that I was" growing like a weed" alot, and I happened to be an infant around the time 'Kung Fu' was popular, (You know, "Come along little grasshopper,..." :hehe: ) So dad combined the two.
jerseygirl
07-30-2004, 07:58 PM
This is a good thread. Besides being a huge Springsteen fan, I picked jerseygirl because I remember so many happy summers when I was a kid at the Jersey shore and when I was a young adult, hanging out with all my friends at the dance clubs in South Jersey. I have so many happy memories of Jersey, I decided to make it my board name. My real name is Charlene.

Great topic!! :highfive: Well my real name is Michelle. I was having a hard time thinking of a screen name. I asked my 16 year old daughter to help me think of a good name. She said she would and gave me a gentle hug. (as she always does.) As I was watching her walk away, I thought, "She is such a angel", which is what i call her. Then it just came to me......."Angel~Huggs"

08-01-2004, 01:38 PM
Hmmmm. Mine goes back to Uni, when a friend and I called each other Graeme and Trevor except we pronounced them as 'Gwaeme' and 'Twevor.' A few years down the track and I married an actual Graeme so I just had to be Trevor. My real name is Penny.

Well, my original screen name chelsearothschild, was my name, how boring. But, for some reason, i had to reregister, and this time i was privvy to my code name. I am a huge kitty fan, and my friends call me chelseacat. Since you are all my friends, such is chelseacat!

Scarlet Wolf
08-16-2004, 07:45 PM
Great Thread, it was fun reading everyone's codenames and the reasoning behind them.
I chose Scarlet Wolf because my face is always very red (scarlet), of course lupus is the wolf, and also because my favorite movie is Gone With the Wind, with Scarlet O'Hara being my favorite character in that film.
Hope you are all having a swell day! :D

08-16-2004, 09:55 PM
My screen name is a sentimental choice, it's the pet name my mother called me when I was very small. (Read : started somewhere under age of 6) I love to sing and would any chance I got. My real name is Robyn--hence another tie-in.

08-17-2004, 12:42 AM
What a cute thread and a great idea!!! Mine is as you see it "Susie", "B" maiden initial, and "B" married initial. I've always been called "SusieB", just put the extension of the other B on the end. Simple and easy for me to remember. Hugs.

08-19-2004, 05:22 AM
Hello :flowers:
I find this particular thread very interesting. I always wondered the significance of everybody's code name, if any.
I chose Believe as my screen name, because....
I really BELIEVE....
that God has a reason, a purpose for all this (though I don't quite know mine yet)..
that we'll get through this some how (and become even greater/stronger beings)..
there is some good tucked underneath all this suffering (still looking sometimes)..
that when we are faced with such a challenge, that the triumph becomes even
greater, more meaningful, that a normal person will never fully understand..
that we must be strong..
that we must perservere..
that we must not let L get us down (though it still does at times..only human)..
that someone else needs us too (because we understand)..
that we must live our life the best that we know how..
that we are indeed very special and unique beings..
that I must believe in myself..
that things will be better.

HI Everyone,
I'm so glad everyone likes this. This is the most replies I've had to any post I posted. ;) ;) Thanks so much. It is so interesting to know where everyone came up with their name. I know lots of people use their real ones, too.
Come on you guys, if you haven't yet. Let us know how you came up with your code name.
Some of you were so ingenious as to how you picked yours. Good Ones, too.
Hope to read some more. :wiggle: :P
kiducation
08-19-2004, 07:52 AM
my code name is from my business I had about 10 years ago
I made up the name "Kiducation "because I taught kids - thus a cross between
kids and education. What I did was to take a full size computer into day cares
and have "classes" with 3-5 year olds once a week. Each day I went to a differeint
school.
Once computers became so cheap, they started putting them in all the rooms
and I found it just wasnt as financially rewarding :( because each year I got less
and less kids.
I really loved teaching them, and so have kept the name to keep the business
alive, if only in my heart. . :(
(also it because its a unique name I can remember)
My real nam is Carol :hehe:

My code name "Shera".
Is from a dog we had that died years ago,
& the kids named her after He-man's sister Shera Princess of power.
I use it on all the sites I go on, easier to remember
raggedyann1
08-19-2004, 06:44 PM
Hello all,
Ok i'll jump in now. When I was a girl I had a collection of Raggedyann and Andy dolls. As I grew older the collection grew into anything that had raggedyann or andy on it. I still have the collection, although at the moment it is packed in boxes in a closet. I never had a daughter to give it to, so now I am holding on to it for a granddaughter.
My real name is Karen
Sleaps2much
08-20-2004, 11:12 AM
Great thread!
I asked my father why he called me Sleaps2much, he replied;
When your brother was born there was a full moon rising so that was his name, and when you sister was born there was a lone tree standing on the horizon so that was her name, and when you were born...
Okay, I lie. After my stroke I slept a lot. I think because my brain was remaking all the connections that were broken like to my paralized arm and my speech, so this was exhausting to my body and I had to sleep lots while my brain repaired everything.
I wish I could fane being native, even, but I am only caucasion (sp). :hello:
Ohh, I forgot... and SLE APS was too much for me to handle at the time! lol

Ellette
08-21-2004, 08:40 AM
Ellette has been my handle/screenname/code name for ages and ages. I have been online since '91 and it has been my most commonly used one. I also used to use Celticgoddess (because I'm mostly Scottish and Irish) and CaffeineIV and CaffeinePlease and TotallyCaffeinated and a couple others. Ellette has always been my favourite though. It means "little elf" and our family has always said we have elves and faieries in our background. ;) Our Irish ancestors are the O'Sheans which means something like "King of the faiery hill". Ellette is what I will name a daughter if God decides that birth control is a silly thing for us to be using and I get pregnant again or if we end up adopting. My great grandmother went by the name Ellie which we'd call our daughter Ellette (our other name choice was Corinne, calling her Corrie because one of my heroes is Corrie Ten Boom but I can't handle naming a girl Cornelia).
Anyway...that's the long version of why I go by Ellette. CaffeineIV I used to use much of the time but people thought it was Caffeine4 instead of an IV Drip, so I went to CaffeinePlease and if that is taken I use TotallyCaffeinated. WAAAY too much information here, but oh well...deal with it. ;) I used to go by Annwn too btw...but then named our rescued Gordon Setter that...it means "from the other realm" meaning from the faiery/elvin world. Our Gordon is a very petite dog in comparison to most Gordons...weighing 42 pounds instead of 60-80 pounds...she's my pixie! :)

Hi Everyone,
Great topic - it's fun reading how everyone come up with their code names. You're all so creative!
Mine is pretty simple. I chose cat because it's one of my nicknames in my family and I've always loved cats. And wolf is for lupus. I liked the combination because wolfcat sounded like a strong name and I feel like I need all the strength I can get to fight this illness. :) My real name is Karen.

08-22-2004, 10:34 AM
Hi,
I once had a hotmail account and my actual name was taken. I didn't want to be a numbered version of myself.
So I chose my initials jm and the name of my cat. Yes another pussycat code name selection. I chose jazzy for my cats name because she was like a jazz note. Running all over the place or sitting curl up relaxed and at the time I used to sing jazz.
I didn't really think about it at the time but have used it now for years.

I have enjoyed reading where all the names came from. I too wondered how people came up with their code name. Mine is from my daughter. For some reason when she went off to college she becan calling me marm or marmie. She always called her dad "daddio" because he called her Tario. I put the name together because my husband and I are one, and I became Marmdaddio. My real name is Sonya-nothing special about that.

:flowers: Hello Everyone!!! :flowers:
I got my nickname when I was a sophmore in high school. I begged my mom to let me enter a pageant. She was reluctant becuse she did not want me to be upset if I did not place. I told her that it did not matter if I placed or not, I just wanted to be able to say that I was in a pageant. So I entered the Miss Groves Pecan Pageant. Needless to say, I WON!!!!! Boy was I surprised! The girls had to push me to the front of the stage because I was like where is the winner, shouldn't she be accepting her crown?
Anyway, at school the next day, I saw the principals and they started calling me the Nut Queen and the Queen of Nuts. So that is how I got my nickname. My Grandfather called me Kimmie-Kay and I was also called Kimbo or Buck Rogers because my maiden name is Rogers.
NutQueen has stuck and I also go by MsKrazyNutQueen on instant messenger.
Hugs & Happy Days To ALL!!!!

My name is Pollyanna, which was given to me by my son when he was 13 yrs old. I used to use my real name, Susie, but he told me that wasn't a safe thing to do. Since I have always been very optimistic, he suggested I use Pollyanna. Another name I use is Picklebritches, which was what my granddaddy called me all my life.
Interesting thread! Pollyanna

lunasparrow
09-08-2004, 11:33 AM
Well, it's a bit hard to explain mine because it has a long history!
The Luna is an 'in' joke with my on-line writing buddies. I named a 'Mary Sue' (code for 'truly awful') character in one of my stories 'Luna' and I adopted it as a joke against myself. ;)
'Sparrow' is a nickname I've had since I was 18 and it's connected with my Christian faith.
My real name is Elizabeth and I answer to any of these!

My name has been with me for years, actually ever since i signed up on the internet. Every name I typed in was taken and I was getting discusted so I said to myself, "It has to be unique, something no one will have." I got my dictionary (I was studying to be a teacher at the time) and I turned to the back of the book and found :Xinxiang so I added my age at the time, and it has been mine ever since. By the way XinXiang is a Provence in China.

My husbands nickname for me is "The Bunny" - please don't ask. Thebunny looked a little pretentious to me, so I changed my online moniker to tbunny. As I use it often on other sites as well, I try to number them so I don't forget if I have to change or update a login.
My real name is Tracy.

Hi Barfut
great fun to read your name makeup. Mine is from my first name and part of my sirname. Was fun when working in PNG when schoolchildren or student teachers couldn't pronounce the mc-- part. :rotfl: It's not really my name now, :wink2: but did not revert to my maiden name, because of my 4 children.

I had the same problem many of you did when I tried to create a name for Yahoo...everything I tried was already taken.
My husband is from Chile and he has always called me "wifa" (pronounced WEE fah), because that is how the word "wife" would be pronounced in Spanish. The jax part is because we live in Jacksonville.
It wasn't overly creative, but it has stuck.

Really enjoying this thread!
Mine is boring - Becks cos that's what my pa & little brother call me - my name's Rebecca.
If it hadn't been taken I would have had Kipper as that's my boyfriend's nickname for me as I'm always having a kip! ;)
belladonna

My real name is Donna. My hubby is half Italian and started calling me Belladonna, (as in beautiful lady). He needs glasses, but still, I think it's sweet. It works for me just as well as in Belladonna, deadly night shade, cause I'm up all night, and when I get moody, well, look out!
I started using it in real life to sign my paintings years ago, so I'm also know as Belladonna to my art friends.

Hi I'm Wingspirit. It is my native american name. Most of the folks now me as Lou which is a nickname also. My husband started calling me that when we first meet and it has stuck.
My given name is Loita, which I really don't like and never have.
Nice to read all the post.

Mine is bit boring also - when I was diagnosed and had bad brain fog - like putting my sanitary towels in the fridge - Hubby called me LoopyLoo so the name stuck. He means it affectionately of course.
I have also been called - Pamster, Pamalamadingdong, Private Benjamin (long story), YoWifey, Wee Wuman.... and many more. You gotta pick what suits you best eh? :rotfl:

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKAY
I thought I would keep out of this post but my better nature got the best of me.
I have an eclectic memory.
Dictionary.com describes this best "not following any one system, as of philosophy, medicine, etc., but selecting and using what are considered the best elements of all systems".
This basically means that if I am to remember anything despite my tendancies to be different I have to follow a system that will be reliable so I stick to what i know and use the same old sign in for mostly everything.
Im a simple lass at heart:) :)

I got my codename from my car a while back. It was a Plymouth ACR Neon, it had the same handling package as an sbcca racecar, was my favorite color, lapis blue, and was a blast to drive/race. People in my area who are into cars, tend to identify other people by the car they drive......hence neongirl. My real name is Rana, pronounced like Donna, but with an R instead. This thread was a blast to read, thanks for starting it:)

I feel very inadequate with all these clever reasons for code names.
Mine's simple. I have a shocker of a memory so I just use my real middle name. I have never forgotten it, so it works for me.;)

Mine was very simple for me because it was given to me years ago.
At work they got new computers and had to give access to everyone.
Someone came up and told me here you have an account now and this is your login.
I have used it since.
It is easy for me to remember since a little piece of my name is in the login.

I just made mine up about 10 years ago when I first joined a forum. I am fairly careful in terms of cyber safety, so I prefer to be known by a nick and don't use my real name online. I wouldn't feel comfortable about posting this level of personal health information online for the world to see under my own name.
cheers

someonesfriend

My username here just got changed (thanks Clare for getting that taken care of for me!) - it had been scaredfriend, because when I joined it was right after I went with my lupie friend to a 5-hour rituximab treatment, and for some reason that made her lupus a lot more real for me and kind of freaked me out for a while afterwards, so the name "scaredfriend" was a pretty good summary of who I was at the time...but recently it's been bugging me that my username makes me perpetually "scared", so I asked that it be changed, but wanted to be able to keep signing my posts "sf" ...so I changed it to "someonesfriend", because that still makes it clear that I'm the friend of someone with lupus rather than having it myself, and also sort of reflects my current confusion about who's friend I really am, or if I'm actually really anyone's friend :worried: ...but I guess by calling myself "someones" friend, I'm trying to be optomistic or something, figuring theres someone out there who'd actually be my (close) friend, whether or not anyone I know now particularly considers me as such...
Sorry for the long philisophical discussion, I've put way too much thought into this
