 Hi ozzy, Yes I have leg pains, but back in the beginning, my main complaint was muscle pain all over. It wasn't until yrs later that they became seperate and more in the forefront.
hope this helps :nurse:

Ozzy,
If it is shooting pain in one leg...it might be sciatic nerve problems caused by a bulging or ruptured disc. Have you been checked for that? Otherwise, it could be restless leg syndrome or just plain 'ol muscle problems. Hope this heped.! Take care... :luck:   :flowers:

hi ozzy one of my first symptoms was back pain but when i think back it was my legs and arms that went first, i noticed at karate my thighs would burn as soon as i went into stances and struggled to get up from floors and i noticed my arms at work didnt seem to have the strength, then the back pain came. when i saw the physio they said it was posture but i now realise the shoulders and hips were becoming weak(my pecs have gone) causing the poor posture, then i had my first flare about 2 months after and my whole body ached like id done a 24hr karate session muscles were sore to touch and hot and stiff. each time it happens it gets worse but my pain meds help a bit now.

One of the very first things was the front of my thighs hurting when I walked up my stairs, then my front hip joint started to hurt and felt weak......I also got side burning pains on my thighs.
Dr. Wallace says these are very common first symptoms, my legs still ache when I walk, not horrible, but just enough to notice :(

Yes, leg pain is definately the worst symptom for me. I think it did start there, and seems to be staying there. I just posted the other day about all the leg pain/stiffness I'd gotten from doin a lot of walking. The worst of it this time was my ankles and my knees. Last Sat., while I rested, my right knee had an intense pain, right behind the kneecap. Of course I've had pains everywhere else, too--thighs, on all sides; my shins and my calves. The pains always move around, and I'm never sure what will hurt next. The pains can be sharp, burning, or aching. Sometimes it feels like the muscles, sometimes the joints, and other times it feels like the skin that hurts.

Hi Songmom- Leg pain was my very first symptom back 7 years ago. In fact I was collapsing and my legs were giving out on me. I still have severe leg and hip pain and get injections in my hip joints which help me immensly. One thing my dr. has given me recently is lidocaine patches which can be placed directly on the spot causing pain and last for 12 hours. I have found these great since they can be moved with pain that travels.
Talk to your dr. about adjusting your pain meds. You shouldn't be in pain where you are not able to sleep or function during the day.
Take good care - Chris

Hi Ozzy
My pain started in my hips about 4 yrs ago. I was diagnosed with bursitis. I saw a
bone doctor and took tests. Did not get any relief though from the meds and was very frustrated with my doctor. So I stop going to him and dealt with the pain. After a year I started getting shoulder and neck pain, put on muscle relaxers. Went into deep depression :( due to I did not know what was going on and no one took me serious. Call it stress the doctors said. I went into menopause at the age of 38, went through a divorce and father died all in that same year. Then the flu like systoms started and I was in bed unable to work days at a time. Had a good boss who understood. The pain in hip got worst over the years and stiffness set in along with leg pains, wrist and knee till I had to return to the doctor. I was dx with lupus, sjogren and traces of scloderma.

Add me to the list too please!
Both my knees felt sore and weak at first and the they felt swollen, couldn't sit down with legs bent underneath me. Then the areas above both knee caps started to feel like they were on fire this happened really quickly within 2 weeks of first symptoms.
Next the burning sensation spread to the back of my thighs then to the sides and fronts and hips, all together. After a couple of months it the spread down past my knees and lower legs and ankles. I have no power or strength in my muscles.
All the muscles then alarmingly started to swell causing even more pain and discomfort. Then at about this time the same process started at my elbows in my arms and worked its way up to my shoulders and wrists.
Like every body else during this period lots of other symptoms started to happen too. I also have problems with my left foot which also started after about two months after the onset of the first symptoms. It becomes really painful and have had to have two injections into it, one successful, one not. Am going for third!
Can sympathise

Looking back, knee pain was one of my most notable symptoms going back about 9 years. It got progessively worse and over the years I began having problems with most of the rest of my joints and eventually I began to experience pain in my muscles. I also had nausea starting about that time which got progressively worse to the point that it made it difficult to function.
My knees pain still is not under control, while meds have eased most of my other pain problems.
I hope that you get some relief soon.

Hey,
One of my 1st symptoms (n I still have/get to this day) was a LOT of Pain in legs, swelling, and such, in the whole leg of Both legs.
It was (& still is) crippling for me, as i could (can) Not walk at all. I would end up in the hospital w/ higher doses of Pred.- at this time i was not dxed., but had Lup.Hep.- n/or bedridden.
Times i (would) try n walk some n (would) fall. (n my legs are Very strong)
This I knew was a start of a wonderful thing. (*W/ Sarcasm* ;) )
Hope u feel better!
Take care,
Alicia :coffee:

My first symptom was burning muscles just above both knees, swelling of both knees and a feeling of numbness. Muscles are extremely sore to touch when out of flare and much much worse when in a flare. Joints burn and ache too but arn't stiff.
Now that has spread to my arms and most recently neck.

Yes, I have significant pain in my left leg, I have had this for years and the only treatment the drs rx is anti inflammatories. Sometimes the skin on the sore leg gets very sensitive to touch, like all the nerves are close to the surface. This pain can wake me from a deep sleep and if I sleep through the pain I can include the sore leg in my dreams.
I get this pain usually when the rest of my symptoms are at their worst.
Its good to be able to share our pain with the folks here who understand. I try not to talk about my pain openly as people really don't want to know.

Leg pain was one of my first symptoms too. I was having severe cramps in my calves at first. My doctor first gave me a drug called Slextin which really helped a lot. Then he gave me Soma and valuim. The valuim was for muscle tremors that I got. The muscles also became almost like stone.. especially if I tried to take a warm bath. However, I also had problems with my thight muscles from time-to-time and the warm bath helped them and my joints. (boy I am a mess, uh?) I would talk to your doctor about it, because if it is anything like what I was experiencing, it can definately get to untollerable levels.
I still have cramping in my legs.. sometimes my thighs/sometims my calves. I did have one doctor tell me that when I cramp in my thighs that it is from inflammation. I have also had doctors tell me that my calves could be cramping from low potassium and eat bannannas. They also have told me that drinking water can help. Personally, eating a bannanna or drinking water has never had immediate benefits, but I do anyway because I figure it is good for you and can hurt. The meds, however, have been a Godsend and work quite well at relieving the cramping---once they kick in that is! (It does take a little bit for the med to start working--it is not an immediate relief type thing.)
Hope this help you some. When all else fails, talk to your doctor ( )
Take care,

Hope no-one minds but I am going to have to ask a question.
I have suffered knee problems for years (burning, swelling, muscles spasming at the back and not allowing me to straighten).
Recently though (within the last 2 weeks), I am now suffering with an extreme pain in my left groin at the top of my thigh (it feels as though it is coming from inside the hip joint). It is at a pain level of 9-10 constantly and is agony when walking up and down stairs and trying to get up off a chair.
A little while ago I also had pains in my right hip which felt as though someone was trying to cheesegrate the bone and then pull my leg out of its socket.
I've only been DX with Fibro & HMS, and my GP is still umming over whether it could be Lupus, but i'm sure this sort of thing doesn't come with Fibro - could this pain then perhaps be the start of Lupus?? I've always had a raised ESR and now an equivocal smooth muscle test for a year, and more recently an equivocal autoimmune thyroid test.
Sorry to ramble but i'm trying to get as much evidence together for my GP next week as he has seen the rash etc., but my Rheumy has just gotten huffy with us both and written us off..
Many thanks in advance..

Hey Vette-
Have you noticed any abdominal pain along with the groin pain? I only ask because you may have torn a ligament in the groin and that could lead to a hernia (which are extremely painful, as I understand). I would definitely go to the doc if I were you just to rule that possiblilty out--better safe than sorry. As for the bones grinding against one another...that sounds like it may need looking into as well...have you had a rheumatoid factor done? It may be osteoarthritis, but if the RF is positive, you may be developing rheumatoid arthritis--they do have problems with the amount of fluid around the joint and bone erosion as well.
One of my first symptoms was pain in the calves as well as pain in my forearms--the forearms was what really got my attention because I knew that there was no possible way that I could have pulled a muscle there. When I get a flare that is particularly bad, the forearms are always involved and they feel achy and on fire.

No abdo pain, have torn a ligament like that before when horse riding and the pain feels totally different.
Have also been tested for Osteoarthritis, Osteoporosis and RA (RF test), all tests negative so far but I do have ulnar drift in the index and middle fingers of both hands and positive ulnar variance in my wrists.
GP does know about cheesegrater bones but has been trying to speak to Rheumy about them for 4 weeks but she wouldn't return his call and appears to have got huffy and dismissed us both.

Leg pain seems to be a universal symptom. I know that a long time ago, 5-10 years, I tried to walk with my husband when he did his 3 miles. My ankles would become so stiff, my feet would go numb and I had such pain up my shins and calfs that I could not hardly make it back home. The next day I would be so sore for 2 or 3 days.
This pain, of course, has spread now to my knees, hips, shoulders, neck and back. However, sometimes the pain is more intense in one area. Right now it's my right knee and hip. My hands are really giving me a hard time today. The weather is changing from hot and humid to stormy. Today I feel like a rusty old can and aching all over with fatigue.
