I got this recipe from the Port Townsend Cooperative Playschool where both my sons attended.
This playdough is very soft and stays soft for months if stored in a zip-lock bag with all the air squeezed out, and then kept in the fridge. (although it doesn't HAVE to be kept in the fridge)
Upon making it, I found it to be quite theraputic for my hands! It's like a massage and a workout at the same time. And you can re-warm it in the microwave, and knead it some more.
PLAYDOUGH
1 cup flour
1/4 cup salt
2 Tablespoons cream of tarter
1 package Kool-aid (for color)
1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
1 cup water
Mix ingredients together in a non-stick skillet over medium heat stirring constantly. (a wooden spoon works best) It will turn into a dough ball. It should be pretty dry, if not, add a little flour as you knead it.
It feels so good on your hands to knead this playdough while its warm (I knead it while its still pretty HOT!) It's also soft enough to just squish your whole hand into like a parafin wax bath.
My kids get impatient with me as I keep telling them, just a minute, I have to knead it some more............so I had to make my own batch.
FUN FOR KIDS OF ALL AGES!

An adult variation of this recipe would be to leave out the Kool-aid and instead add a few drops of your favorite smelling essential oil. (important to leave out the Kool-aid because the dough will smell like whatever flavor you used)
