I just found this on google. I am sure most of you probably aware of this. but, i thought this looks more reasonable approach than Mirac or some miracle drug.

Padmap,
You are right that this seems far more reasonable.
However I find the title completely ridiculous. I do not think any of those ideas are going to cure or beat lupus.
I also disagree with his statements about the medications we take. Particularly plaquenil. The retinal damage almost NEVER happens and the hair loss occurs when someone is taking a much higher dose than is used for lupus. The retinal damage and hairloss occurred in WWII for soldiers in the Pacific part of the war.
I have never had any damage to my kidneys or liver in spite of taking "toxic" medications.
I would also totally check out all the herbs he suggests. Some of them interfere with medications we take for APS, blood pressure and who knows what else.
Most of his suggestions can help but keep in mind it won't cure you.

I was impressed that it wasn't too "radical" to have some truth to it. I agree with Karen that Plaquenil is one of the safest drugs we have--safer than aspirin.
While I wouldn't replace my meds. with the methods mentioned, I might ask my doctor what they think about me trying some.
Thanks for the link. :flowers:

I had to agree with the diet aspect of this. I just had a bad attack of pancreatitis and now I'm on a basically vegetarian diet. I do eat like chicken soup with minimal amounts of chicken in it. In two weeks I have lost about ten pounds. This is due to illness as well as major change in my diet. I think when I actually get over this flare that I'm in the diet will make an enormous improvement in my overall health. I'm avoiding fats and meats like the plague and I'm taking a fish oil supplement with my meals. I feel better with the weight coming off and think I'll stick with this low fat "semi-vegatarian" diet. It's also helping my diabetes. I don't agree a whole lot with herbal remedies without a physician's direction. Hope you all have a wonderful day!

It does have alot of truth in it, I agree with raggedyann1, I have had some problems with herbs. I don't eat meat and never really have, so I do agree with the diet. CQ10 has helped me allot with my colesterol, but what may help one, may not help another. Take-care Jude

hi, i thought it was a good article - far more sensible than some i've read on the issue. all meds and herbs have risk - some more than others. i thought the "sisters in lupus" comment a bit odd as men do get the disease.

Intersting article - some useful information, some not useful or accurate. I've done a lot of the 'complimentary' healing stuff: Reiki, accupuncture, etc. and it has helped me ALONG WITH MY MEDICATIONS. I use them as part of my treatment and see the practitioners of this as PART OF my treatment team. I would NEVER encourage or suggest anyone substitute any of the stuff mentioned for traditional medicine, that sounds dangerous, but use it in addition to it. Anything that can help us relax can only help!
