For those of you who know the trouble that I have had with my ten year old daughter and in getting her to have any blood taken please keep your fingers crossed for me tomorrow, as she is scheduled to have blood tests. We have been seen by peadiatrition, who was very very good, and has worked out what blood tests to run, they are going to do a full blood count, ESR, Rheumatoid Factor, Autoimmune screen including ANA and double stranded DNA, and Immunoglobulin screen. She has agreed to have the tests, and I am hoping that it will go as smoothly as it can for the stroppy, premenstrual, needle phobic individual that she is! He has also referred her to a opthalmologist for her dry eyes, and a dermatologist for her scabby head, so I feel quite happy that he has done the neccessary, just need some good vibes to get me through tommorow. I think I have it all under control :D but boy will I be glad when it is done!!!!

Thank you for your wishes and good vibes! It is done :woohoo:
I am so very proud of her as she was so so scared, the nurses were lovely and she even made them a thankyou card! :D
I am so hoping that they come back and are able to exclude an underlying autoimmune condition, but at least I know that I am doing the right things for her, given the circumstances of the last year. I also feel quite optomistic given that she really does seem quite well, and not at all like the poorly little girl she was for six months last year. Thanks again for your wishes, and for the help and support whilst I have struggled and agonised over my little angel!
Love and hugs

Hiya Flutter

A big well done to your little angel, i don't like having blood tests done at my age so she was sooooo brave. I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you and your little angel that the results come back just the way we all want them to.

Good luck with the results and keep us posted as and when you get them.

Take care Jo XXXX

 Just could not let your posting go by on here without saying that what you and your little girl are both going through cannot be easy at all.
My heart goes out to people who suffer this nightmare of **** but to hear of little ones suffering it just makes me feel even worse still. I really hope that all bloods taken give out results that make your little one very treatable and puts an end to the pain and suffering so that she can get on with her little life, glad that she has you there tho, with you as her mum she has the best emotional support that she really needs.
Take good care of each other and you are so much in my thoughts and prayers.
Love Sylviax :flowers:

Hi Flutterbye,

I'm so glad your daughter's symptoms have resolved! But it's important you are having her bloodwork evaluated. Your comment about the anguish you have lived with for her and what may lie ahead certainly resonates for me. My daughter has been having bloodwork done every six months since she was four due to "unusual" symptoms. There is a product called Emla which is a topical Anesthetic that I use when she needs to have her blood taken. It totally numbs the area and makes the phlebotomy painless--she doesn't even know it's happening if she's not looking. We can get it over the counter in Canada but I think it requires a rx in the US. It might help her if she needs to have blood taken in future. The active ingredients are lidocaine and prilocaine at 2.5% each. It really eases my daughter's mind knowing that she won't feel anything.

Wishing continued good health for her! Nell

Thank you all so very much. My daughters tests are in and most of them are absolutely normal. There is one of the autoimmune screen tests which shows a 'weak positive' but which the clinicians say has no clinical relevance(?) We do have follow up appointmeants, and she remains really quite well. I have been taking pictures of her skin, and I guess I am being vigilant but not paranoid, I think i have a reasonable instict (maternally speaking) and one of the most positive things is that she will not be so afraid of having blood taken again (Nell we used Emla cream, both on our failed and successfull attempts, it was more the fear of it than anything) and she was surprised at the fact that she was unaware becaues it wasn't painful, so at least that is one thing that has been concered, and perhaps it won't be such a hefty bribe next time! Once again thank you all for your support and your understanding.

Hi Fluterby,

Sorry I haven't replied to you (I just got your personal message today that you left in March) I am such a dumb blonde sometimes.

I am so pleased for you and your daughter that the blood tests were 1, taken without a hitch and 2, mainly normal. It will be so much easier and less stressful next time she needs to have bloods done. I remember when Vikki finally allowed them to do her bloods she quietly told me after that they weren't as bad as she had expected and felt a little foolish (bless).

She came to watch and gloat at me having bloods done the other day (I didn't have to be pinned down I may add, rofl) but squeeked a little as the kneedle went in much to her amusement.

I hope your daughter remains well, I wish you both good health

Love Karen xx
