:o Hi all, I don't know what to do as my hair is just falling out 24/7, I am shedding faster than my doggie, lol. But is all seriousness, what is best to slow down or stop or make your hair regrow. I have read about many products, most are high $$$$ that claim all sorts of promises. Please tell me your experiences and what have you found that works best for you. :sneeze:

Sincerely,

Boy can I ever relate to hair loss!!! There once was a time when I had the thickest most beautiful hair. Well, lets just say now I tip the scales in the other direction!! I gather it by handfuls in the shower , when I brush or even just touch it! I even gathered some in a baggie once before a Dr. apt just to show him what I was dealing with daily!! I haven't purchased any Rogain or anything like that, but I do use Pantene thickening shampoo and conditioner. They also have a thickening spray that I use before I style( Whats left HA HA) Good luck to you and your hair!

:D :D :D
I am doing the same thing injesus, putting my daily losses in a bag to take to my next doctors apt.

I was thinking of adding a little cyane, spelling powder to my shampoo and conditioner as it stimulates blood flow through the skin. Ya think :hehe:

Sincerely,

Look forward to more stories!!!!

BTW, what did your doctor say when you gave it to him???

I have been fighting a very stubborn case of alopecia latley due to DLE and was thinking of dying my hair pink and buyin some silly string. I figure if it dosen't come out of carpets than it should stick to the scalp prety good. Plus I thought it would give the gals at Derm and Rhummy a HOOT.

:afraid: know how you all feel,i have had episodes when i could just run my hands thru my hair and get handfulls, one thing that does really work is nioxin products,i am in the hair biz and this stuff really works, they have a vitamin line, and scalp therapy,it was made for chemo patients and serveraL of my clients swear by this, its not instant but it does work ,the vitamins and cleaner with scalp therapy will cost approx 35-40 dollars and you can only get this in salons.i have statred using it and my hair is filling in ,i had some bald patches about the size of a 50 cent piece and they have filled in ,it does not take much and should last you about 3-4 months ,hope this helps :hello:

I have heard good things about Nioxin as well but use a small amount to start. It burned my wifes head when she tried it.

She has had treatments from a Derm for hair loss that ranged from steriod injections in the scalp to a cream he had he rub on each night.
They both worked to some degree but the injections were PAINFUL.

The cream is Diproline and it seems to work. We also found that changing shamppoos to a good high quality moisturizing shampoo and conditioner helps.

Thank you so much, I will ask the doc on friday about the cream. I have been so upset about loosing so much of it, 3/4 to be exact, that I went and had it cut short today which makes it easier to hide the bald spots with some parting techniques. I will see if he will rx the cream, I am so beyond crying over it anymore, it makes me just plain feel icky and sad.

I can totaly relate. Losing your hair stinks. I've been struggling with hair loss for a whilw now. One thing I found to help is to keep your hair short, its alot easier to manage. Try to not wash it or stye it on a day to day basis. Nioxin is great, somewhat epensive, but it really does help. They have all types of products. You should look into it. Best of luck! Thank you so much for the great advice! I started using the Nioxin, for about 3 days now, but I do like how it tingles. Still not wroking well yet, but I am not giving up!

Andrea H, funny thing you mentioned cutting hair shorter, I did the day I bought the Nioxin, love the hair style, now if I could figure out how to style it like he did, lol:)

And yes Chantal, I have also been going a few days without shampooing in the past, and still wake up with my hair everywhere but on my head. Why can't it just fall off of the places we shave like our leggs, underarms, lip waxing, but noooo it has to come off our heads!

Sorry, ranting:)

Thanks all again, I will keep with it,

Sincerely,

Wiglets are awsome at looking natural, hotglue some extra combs under the cap and use bobby pins, no one can tell. I had thick beautiful hair, Iget as many if not more using my disguises. The other is to get fake hair, spray it with hairspray, rat it a little so it doesn't look fake, curly hair is usually easier to disguise, then shape it into a circle at the middle of the back of your head, bobby pin it down, then I use a three barrell curling iron on the rest of my hair to blend it in, it creates the most easy, beautiful updo, people are always telling me how beautiful I look, usually after I have filled the trash full of my hair. Then if you have bald spots or thinning part line, I use waterproof mascara to thicken the hair I do have, I may also use just a little on my scalp to create a illusion of hair. It is getting harder to hide though, good luck, oh yeah hair pills you can buy at wallmart for 3-6 $ and folic acid!! Good luck :nurse:

When I asked my Rhumy he said it was not the drug only my SLE changing ,Deborah (New.)

I have struggled with hair loss on and off for years. I get steroid injections every 6 weeks and have no idea if they help. My derm recommended Rogaine and I finally gave in and tried it. IT WORKS!! It takes a little while and you have to stay committed, but it worked for me on spots that I had given up on. I prefer the spray applicator, not the drops.

 My hair was falling out realy bad about 3 months ago. I tried rogaine and it WORKS! It said it would take about 4 months to see results or sometimes longer but i started seeing resluts after just a month. Now after 3 months of being on the rogaine i don't have to wear wigs anymore. My hair looks normal again. Being sick sucks but being sick and bald for a woman really sucks. Rogiane is about $19.95 for a one month supply at walmart, or you can get the more expensive 3 month supply for like $50.00. The only thing about using the rogaine it that once you start taking it and it works for you ,you have to continue to take it forever. If you stop all the hair you grew will fall out after a couple of months.

Glad to hear that other people are having luck with the Rogaine. Just one note, my understanding is that for lupus, you don't necessarily have to keep using it forever. My new hair growth has not fallen out and I stopped using the Rogaine a couple of months ago.

hi
my hair has started to fall out aswell, the whole of the front of my head is all spikey and a section at the back and right side. I have been to a homeopath and he gave me some tablets called florisene which i take three times aday with meals, my hair started to grow back remarkingly fast almost straight away, but its not available on the nhs, grrrr, lol. but its worked wonders with my hair.

Perhaps you could get the ingredients ( vitamins and iron ) on the NHS ? Or more cheaply separately
There are a number of warnings about taking it for example not 2 hours either side of meals.

Take care !

You can get a generic minoxidil topical solution which is basically the same as rogaine for a lot cheaper--like $9 for a month's supply.
