My name is Katina. I recently applied for SSI benefits and I was turned down. :tantrum: I have started an appeal. I would like to know if any of you have tried to get SSI and have been turned down. What did you do after being turned down. How long did it take some of you to recieve your benefits? Thank you for your time and may God bless each of you. Katina :flowers:

Hey Katina,

I don't know much about SSI. It took me 2 years to get SSD. Did they tell you why you were turned down??? Do you have enough points and what are your illnesses?? I know you can't be working or your hubby can't make too much money.

Just appeal and maybe the 2nd time will be the charm

GOOD LUCK

I think if you live in the US you will find that almost everyone is turned down the first 2 times.

Goodluck,

if you get turned down i'd get a lawyer that can help prove and review your case

also if you have any added additional things i believe that can help too you can never over do it in my opinion.

Hi,

Are you trying for SSI or SSD? If it is just SSI I would go down to your local social services offices asap.

Good

Luck

Katina,

I was also wondering if u were talking about SSI- Supplemental Security Income; or SSDI- Social Security Disability Insurance?

W/ SSI there are certain requirements, but it does NOT go on points earned from work<- that is SSDI.

How old are u? U do need to have to be considered "disabled"- which they say- "An individual under age 18 is "disabled" if he or she has a medically determinable physical or mental impairment"

n list what the requirements are for the impairment. This is similar to over 18, also which the req.s are alomost the same.

But, this does go on how much money u have- income recieved from work- friends, relatives, etc.

Here's the site for SSI, eligibility requirements- http://www.socialsecurity.gov/notices/supp...bility-ussi.htm (http://www.socialsecurity.gov/notices/supplemental-security-income/text-eligibility-ussi.htm)

That site also has info. on SSDI if that was what u were referring to. & if that is, sorry for confusiion, butnthe SSI may possibly help u if u can't get SSDI. & this is good info. for any1 looking for SSI.

About SSDI- that also matters on things- but, as mentioned that goes on points earned from working. If u haven't worked that much, then u prob. don't have enough points to get SSDI- which u would then not get approved.

So, before continuing maybe find out all the facts, n whatnot, if it is SSDI u are looking to get.
But, u also would have to have a Diagnosed illness /(disease), just to let u know (which i believe i have read U are dxed. already). There are a couple other ways of getting it i've read. 1 being through a parent if they get Soc.Sec.

Anyways, whichever u are looking at that site can be helpful. & let us know which 1 u were looking to- I am very curious, n that could help. If we know we could poss. help u more.

& i am wondering how old u are?- that can have some factors in things; n such.

I hope u are doing as best as can be now. Take care, n hope this helped some,
Alicia :coffee: :flowers:

I know it took me 1 year to get ssd. That is because I am 44 years old and they consider that to young. With the help of my doctor and a lawyer I got it finally after a year. Unfortuantely I have alot of arthritis throughout my body also. Whatever it is you need to reapply for it imediately. You have to keep trying. Good Luck
