View Full Version : Pain Medicine and Piroxicam?

My doctor has only given me Piroxicam (anti inflammatory) and then Hydrocodone for the muscle aches.
He doesn't want to use steriods unless he absolutely has to (he says). I'm on week 2 of these meds and am not seeing a real noticeable improvement.
Has anyone else been on these medications before?
I really don't like having to take pain medication but if I don't, I can hardly function. I am concerned about tolerance and addiction issues though.
Thanks!

Spriggy,
I am not sure which anti-inflammatory that is as they have different names in various countries. I do take anti-inflamm and pain meds with no problem.
The pain meds should have an immediate effect if not your doctor may want to try a stronger dose. Some anti-inflamms can take a few weeks to totally kick in.
We have just pinned at the top of this forum a link to an article I just posted yesterday on the myth of addiction when using pain meds for pain.
Take care,

Sorry to hear your hurting but it's hard to say. I wanna say doc know's best but sometimes they dont know c*#p especially when it comes to lupus. I found plaquenil and methotrexate and also prednisone to keep me moving....If I dont take my meds I dont walk that day. Good Luck!
Spriggy,
Hey I've never taken that NSAID before, but have heard of it. Piroxicam (Feldene) yes, the effect can take a couple of weeks to be apparent. & sometimes about 3 weeks for the full effect.
So, see if it starts to help some; give it a little bit more time, since it has been only 2 weeks, it could just take a little bit more for u. If u don't notice a difference talk to your doc. there are many more NSAID's out there u can try.
The Hydrocone isn't working at all? Have u gone w/o it n noticed any difference?
There have been pain meds. that haven't had any affect on me. n if that's the case, u could need a stronger med.
I would talk to your doc. n discuss this. I hope u get some relief soon.
Take care,
