I am new here and I really am not doing well! I have this rash and it burns and it is oozing  sorry. There are sores on my nose and the rash around my cheeks heading up towards my eyes. I am feeling really ashamed. I am at work, but I will be going home soon. I am going to try oatmeal when I get home. I went to the dermatologist I have 6 different steroidal and nonsteroidal creams...nothing is working. Any suggestions will be welcomed
thanks
Liz

I would call the doctor right away and make sure that he/she knows the creams aren't working. Do not be ashamed the rash is not your fault. I can only offer the suggestion of some tripple antibiotic with the stuff to numb pain in it.
Liz,
I just read your other post; i was wondering if u had been dxed. nb see u have had Lupus for some yrs. now. U didn't mention exactly which type, but i was thinking poss. Discoid??
Anyways, i realize u said the dermy gave u these creams. When is the last time u when to him/her? Could smething else be going on, other than the Lupus rash?
could u be also poss. getting an allergic reaction to one of the creams?
I would definitely call your dermy n try to get in there, if u haven't yet, n let him/her know about the oozing. Has it been oozing for a while, or did that recently start?
wondering if (s)he knows about that part already. U mentioned it was itching before, is it still, n I hope you are Not scratching. u don't want an infection.
Please, talk to your doc. Maybe there is something else they can try; are u still on Pred.? n it's not helping, if so?
Sometimes things aren't always Lupus. but, i don't know what your rash looks like, n whatnot.
But, the oozing should be addressed asap.
In the mean time, have u tried applying a warm or cool cloth- just water would be safe- u don't want to put anything on it that the doc.hasn't pxed. or oked. since u won't know what the reac. will be. That may help w/ the burning.
It may be burning b/c of inflammation?
I hope u feel better! Take care,
Alicia :coffee: :flowers:

Hi! Liz,
When I had an oozing rash, (before I started Plaquenil), I found calamine lotion, the kind in a tube for poison ivy with benadryl in it, really helpful. It is a thick pink, so I only used it at home, and mostly at night or after a bath, but it really helped my spots dry up. It stings alittle, but I liked the sting alot more than the itch. :P It helped dry up the oozing alot. sue. p.s. steroid creams never helped me, either :(

Hello I too am wondering just what type of Lupus you have?
My wife has had similar problems which she was told was Subacute Cutanious Lupus Lessions.
She had it on face, arms and back. Do you have it any other places or just the face ?
Her Derm did a skin biopsy on the back area where the scar is easier to hide and had it tested to confirm he was correct.
After that he perscribed four things and in this order to be done.
1.) He upped her Pred.
2.) He gave her triamcinalone cream to be used.
3.) Eucerin skin care cream. The one in the tub not the bottle. It is about as thick as Crisco and feels about the same going on but really does the job of moisturizing.
4.) The highest level sun screen she could find that was both UVA and UVB protection.
It can be unsightly and people can be very unkind at times. The questions get annoying at best and the looks are even worse.
The worse she had was when a clerk at a store turned and ran away like she had something that would infect the intire store.
I wanted to tell the gal that Yes it was contagious but it was to late for her she was already exposed when we came in.
My wife wouldn't let me. Just my onery side coming out I guess.
As far as the oatmeal is concerned here is what was suggested to us once.
Put the oatmeal in a blender and crush it up to a powder. Put it in a sock and put it in a tub of water and then just get in and soak.
This is what is sold as Aveno in stores for a very high price and is very good for your skin.
It feels good and the sock helps keep the tub clean and less trouble to clean up and is good for the entire body.
Most of all go back to your Derm and let them see what is going on.
