Hey everyone!

Been to see the registrar GP yesterday at my local surgery and found out have one, fairly small infected hair follicle down below. She prescribed me strong antibiotics, 2000mg a day, but antiobiotics make me really sick and give me thrush but only realised they were oral antiobiotics and not a cream when I'd left the GPs- typical!

I've decided not to take the antibiotics but try using tea tree oil there as Ive read on the net, and in books, that it can help vaginal boils and carbuncles as it has anti-septic and anti inflammatory properties but I just wondered if anyone else has had this, and what they have done, as apparently these can occur especially with immune supressed people, but I can't find anything about it on the message boards here.

Hope you can help!!!!!

Oh, how I can relate with your problem!!!!! :afraid: I have chronic, recurrent genital abscesses. When they occur, the first thing I do is begin a regimen of hot soaks 15 to 20 minutes at a time 3 to 4 times a day. This will either bring the infection to a head at the surface, or it will cause the tissues to reabsorb the infection. Either way, it will help.

What the hot soaks do (as hot as you can stand, but not too hot) is they increase the blood circulation to the area.

If the infection is not open, but is covered by skin, using ANY kind of antiseptic will do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, NADA, NIL, ZIP, ZERO, ZILCH. That includes Tea Tree Oil. It will only treat infection if the skin is broken, either through spontaneous rupture or by lancing with a sharp sterile instrument.

I have DECADES of experience with the genital abscesses and know that the hot soaks will have a dramatic effect within about 3 days. I can say that it is exactly what I would do if I were in your position.

Angela :flowers:

I have had trouble with these on my thighs. The first one I had, I did not know to do the hot soaks and it got very infected and was destroying the surrounding tissues and became extremely painful. I was treated with oral antibiotics for several weeks.

Now at the first sign of one, I immediately start the hot soaks and that does make it come to a head, faster and less painful or as said above it goes back into the tissues. Since I have been doing that they are easy to manage and care for without going to the doc or using any antibiotics.

I do need to say that I have not been diagnosed with lupus, and I do not know if the treatment would be different with that diagnosis.

Hello all,

I get them also. The first time I had one the dermatologist told me it was an infected hair folicle and gave me a prescription ointment called cleocin. Everytime one would start up I would put the cleocin on it and it would go away. Then I noticed that they would show up at the same time as I would get a yeast infection , hmmmmmmmmmmm. So I would revert to my higher doses of probiotics (yes ladies my favorite cureall. ;) ) and then no yeast infections no infected hair folicles.

Of course anti-biotics always bring them on and I ran out of the prescription stuff. All of that happened after I got sick again and I had no desire to have another doctors appointment. So I started using cortisone cream. It would bring them to a head or make them disappear. Then I began to worry that bringing them to a head was the wrong thing to do so I have been using OTC neosporin for that last 9 months. which works but it takes longer. So now I wonder what I really should be doing. I can ask my GP for a prescription for the Cleocin? or just go hot baths and cortisone cream? Of course if I would just stay on higher doses of the probiotics I wouldn't have them pop up so often. Its just at times I hate taking so many tablets everymorning and everynight and I skip them.

Thank goodness for this thread. I thought I was the only one with this additional problem.

I have three down below that keep returning. I have been given antibiotics and like you these give me thrush. They then gave me Magnesium Sulphate paste which you apply to the boil/abcess and cover and leave for 24 hours. It is supposed to draw the infection out. It did owrk on one but I will not give you the graphic description of the horror I uncovered.

My boils/abcesses come and go but are particularly bad when I feel really awful. I have found the paste to be the better option but it has not cleared them up completely. The stupid things return and have now spread to my chest.....lovely.

Hopefully you will find something that works for you.....Take care.....Janine

Me too, me too! Wow... thought I was the only one, and what a subject to have to bring up, you know?

I'm glad to know about the hot soaks... my instinct would have been to stay away from heat.

Thanks, all!! :)

i have just had something like this - what fixed it for me was finding the hair that had the infected follicle, and plucking it. The hair was in grown so I had to sterilize a needle and dig around a bit. As soon as the hair was plucked the whole thing just disappeared.

I to have had this problem, but it has spread to my buttocks and sometimes I get boil like things, they leave scars behind, not a pretty sight compared to what it used to be, before the scars that is.

I have started using colidal silver drops mixed with a drop or two of peroxide and it clears them right up, no infection at all. I had to treat my dog with it after she was attacked by a possum in the back yard and her stomach was split down the middle, she healed fast and no scar was left. So I figured if it was good for her then why not me. I just hope it keeps working!

I also get this, I too find that if I can pull out the hair that is infected it allows the muck to come out and then calms down, I then dab it with teatree oil. Mine tend to keep coming back in the same place I have 4 now they look like small purple bruises.

I also got a bad abcess inside at the very front (walked as though I had just got off a horse) I had to go to the GP's for that and was sent straight to hospital to have it lanced!!!! Luckily I waited so long it burst itself, so was sent on my way with a prescription for antibiotics, luckily that one hasn't come back.

I have been diagnosed with FMS but am quering Lupus.

I too have had those cysts for many years, usually my husband is able to help me with them due to their location, but once when he was gone for two weeks I was almost desprate enough to go to a Dr. :afraid: .I had been reading a familycircle, ( I think) magazine and it had a short health tip, which suggested that you put some baking soda, in warm water, and then soak a cotton ball in it, then using a band-aid or tape put it over the area. Change it several times during the day and before bed, I figured what the heck and gave it a try, and within a day it stopped throbbing and was gone completely within a couple more days! I was amazed, and have used it ever since. I don't know if it will work for everyone, but it sure helped me. :) hope it helps someone else, woofmonster
