I have had a SLE and SS diagnosis for about 14 years. Since last October I have been battling the headaches/brain fog/confusion that will not go away which my rheumy calls CNS lupus. It is usually cleared with prednisone. I take Plaq, Nexium, Voltarin and prednisone. I have had to have 4 IV pulse steroid treatments since November. Last Friday I just finished another round of the IV steriods and today my head has began to hurt again and the heaviness/fogginess is coming back. My rheumy said that if this didn't work this time he was going to try Imuran.

Have any of you had any luck with Imuran working for the confusion/brain fog/ headaches? I just can not keep going like this. I feel so weird in my head and I am trying to work.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thank you sooooooooo much

Hi Lisade,

Usually when they diagnose CNS Lupus they start you on an immunosupressant. My doc has chosen Imuran and I'm early in treatment because we started at a low dose - but I've only had one seizure in 3 months and my headaches have been a lot more manageable too, not the knock down bring me to my knees kind  so I think we are making progress. It's worth asking about, and may enable you to cut back on steroid usage.

Thank you both for the reply. I was hopping that the Imuran could be the answer. He did swith me to Methlyprednisolone rather than the plain prednsione last Saturday and today I do think my head is much clearer. I am very hesitant about the Imuran and trying to hold off.

Thanks again
