shingles

Hi everyone. About 2 weeks ago I had shingles due to a weakened immune system from the medications I am on. Shingles are caused by the same virus(varicella) as chickenpox. They are extremely PAINFUL, even after the blisters are gone. I developed the shingles on my front rib, wrapping around to the back or my ribs, and thats where I have scars. I was wondering if anyone had shingles before, and if so did the scars ever go away? Did you use anything to aid in its healing, like mederma? If so, what were the results?

I developed shingles when I was about 15 years old. VERY PAINFUL!!! I also have it on the front side of my ribs and then all around the back but only on the right half of my body. I have scars and through the years (i am now 30 yrs. old) the scars of gotten smaller but they are still there. They've lightened up and gotten smaller but you can definitely see them.
I didn't use anything on them but i think that's because i didn't bother to ask. I had just gotten dx so being worried about scars was the furthest thing on my mind. You should ask find out though... I wish i had....

Hi dmb, the scars should fade over time, however if you are taking corticosteroids ie prednisone, prednisolone, or methylprednisolone it may take a little longer as these drugs impair the bodies natural ability to heal.

I had Shingles when I was a teenager. Mine were on the underside of my right forearm. The scars took a while, but they did eventually fade away. Good luck and be gald that you are over them, Shingles are no fun!!
