I went to a doc today about a possible UTI because I have had horrible nocturia these past couple nights (have to pee every hour) but not really during the day.... its much much worse at night. So did a urinaylsis, no white or red cells, but protein 30mg, and bacteria was present in the UA analysis so a culture was ordered. I am worred about the protein... I have never had protein before... and I red that night time urination combined with protein could be nephritis. I see my rheumy on friday... my last UA was clean 4 weeks ago. Ah! Advice would be appreciated!

Hi Allerian.
With the presence of bacteria in the UA it is most likely to be a UTI for which antibiotic treatment should settle the proteinurea down.
If it is nephritis caused by the SLE, you may need to go on corticosteroid treatment and possibly other immunomodulatory drugs.
Have your anti dna, complement levels been tested recently as they may also give a clue as to whether it is the SLE or something else causing the proteinurea.
Hope this helps !
