Feeling sick and upset tummy

Hi EVeryone, Donna here.

I started taking Plaquenil a week ago and the last few days I have been going to the toilet a lot with the runs and I have an upset tummy making me feel as though I am going to be sick, although I haven't been sick as yet. I also take Naproxen, Prednisolone and Methotrexate.

Have any of you had any of these symptoms? If so, do you know how long it lasts or what I can take to make this go away. Normally, an upset tummy wouldn't bother me, but right in the middle of a nasty Lupus flare, I think you all agree that it's just something else too much. It may just be a bug going round, but thought I would check anyway.

Hi Donna

How much are you taking, when and how. It's best to gradually work up to the full dose. Splitting the dose can help and it should always be taken with food.

This is strictly non medical advice & you should consult your doctor but I would stop taking it for a day or two to see if I felt any better.

Then start again at a lower dose even every other day, gradually building up. This gives your body a chance to get used to it.

Hi Clare, I'm taking 200mg twice a day, with food. I have also reduced prednisolone by a quarter and feel much better for it. A lot of the fatigue I was having was due to steroids so doc advised I reduce and wait and see. I was sleeping about 18-20 hours a day and just thought it was the Lupus. I still get tired, and need a nap, but it's much better.

I know I am now in the tweeking with meds stage and wait and see what happens. Is this nausea common with plaquenil.
