Hi Sandy,
Do you know if the ANA titre was 1:40 or 400 - which would be the new testing method.
Is there a normal range for the Anti-dsDNA on your lab form. It differs from lab to lab and there is also some variation depending on where in the world you live.

hi sandy,
Your doctor will have to work out what your results mean taking your symptoms into account and he will probably want to do some further testing so good luck with the Rheumy on Friday.
Your interpretation of results will be similar to ours in Australia but positive tests for things can mean different things.
For instance the ANA is found in Lupus, but its also found in other conditions. So its an indicator not a diagnosis.
Your Anti-dsDNA seems to be negative going by the normal ranges for your lab, usually its a strong indicator of Lupus in high titres but is found in lower titres in some other autoimmune conditions.
Your anti-mitochondrial antibodies being positive could mean primary biliary sclerosis an autoimmune liver problem. That is sometimes found in Sjogrens syndrome.
But the doctor will need to take your symptoms into account, also what meds you are currently taking etc. Our blood tests are just indicators of what might be wrong
so there's a bit more detective work to be done by the Rheumy.
Good luck with your appt. and let us know how you get along.
love

Hi my name is Amber and I am also confused about this testing thing. but I live in the United States and I really dont know if tests are different or not but I wanna leave my test results and see if anyone can tell me any different.. I mean I have all the signs and symptoms of SLE but I also know that Mixed Connective Tissue Disease are about the same and this rheumy wasnt that much of help but here are my tests results.
RNP Antibodies: 294 H 0-99
ANA: 182 H 0-99 They circled SLE and Mixed Connective Tissue Disease. They also said that my ANA was positive and I do know that a positive ANA can be from anything.
Sedimentation Rate-SED rate/ESR: 21 H
I hope that this could be some help.. but I just went to the ER cause my right foot was purple and swollen and my whole right leg was hurting including my knee and it felt like a burning feeling.. but this has happend once before.. also I get sensitive from the sun I start breaking out with these red dots all over my arms and I get these red patches all over my arms.. I have just about the signs and symptoms but my Rheumy is just not listening to me, also i get a little loss of hair but they said maybe the reason they cant pick it up is because its probably in the early stages of it but im not sure.. thats why they arent picking it up.. If you have any answers for me that would be great.. Amber
Hi Amber,
Sounds like you need another opinion if this doc is not medicating and treating your symptoms? Sometimes they are reluctant to give a firm diagnosis but your results with having the RNP antibodies should tip them off there is a disease process going on, along with symptoms/criteria met of course. Whether its Lupus or MCTD is not something that anyone but the doc could tell you. But they will often start one of the disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs like Plaquenil usually. Perhaps you should press him for further clarification?

Hi Lilly,
Well thank you for your post, That docotr is really not hearing me well at all but I have an appt. with my regular doctor on monday anyway. I am going to let him know everything on what she is saying and doing.. She is not hearing me out on this. well My gastro docotr was the one who found the ANA and RNP postive but her thought that she would help me but i guess not.. Amber
