Hi everyone,
I spent the afternoon in Interventional Radiology to have my port-a-cath inspected. They inserted dye and viewed it on the screen, and I could see it clearly as well - kewl :) . Not only was it leaking at the port/dome but there was a clot at the "tip" where it meets the artery and a major "loop" in the middle which means it had shifted so much that a loop was formed with the catheter.
I then spent the evening in ER anticipating being admitted. My GP wanted me admitted to have a central line inserted (in groin or neck area :afraid: ) to get the antibiotics infused asap. The Radiologist had checked to see if he could place a picc line in me but said there was no way with my veins, even with US guidance.
The doctor making the final decision in ER did not feel however that the antibiotics were such a priority for this type of temp line and sent me home - which was just fine with me :P . I should be having the surgery within the next couple of days for the new port-a-cath - so the infection is free for time being. The cellulitis didn't look any worse today though so hopefully it won't spread.
God willing the surgery or double surgery, i.e. to remove the old port and implant the new one, will go smoothly. Last year's surgery did not go particularly well (I went into a major flare amongst other things) so I do hope this one will be better.
thanks for listening and hugs to you all,
