Just wondering.......... will aleo vera juice or drink help boost our immune system or cause more problems for people with immune system conditions?

Can anyone else know?....Kat

Hi, Kat! ;)
I think I've seen a thread on this before.

I haven't tried drinking the aloe vera juice, but I do use the sap from my aloe vera plants on my skin with good effect. I've not used the commercially prepared juice, just the fresh juice from the leaves.

I'm sure someone will be along soon who knows more than I do.

Angela :flowers:

We are advised not to take anything that "boosts" the immune system because that will also boost the malfunctioning that causes us to produce antibodies against our own cells increasing inflammation and disease activity.

That's why many of the drugs we take in fact suppress the immune system thus reducing disease activity.

Very few natural substances are thought to boost the immune system or modify it in any way, assuming a person is not suffering nutritional deficiencies.

People might say they feel better after taking these widely advertised supplements, whatever that means, and they may do no harm but my view is to spend the money on getting the best treatment you can. The money might also be better spent on activities that will reduce stress levels.

It could be costly to your health to put your faith into any product or natural substance, believing the claims made by the people selling it with no evidence at all other than anecdote and testimonials.

Hi Kat ;)

I tried the aloe vera years ago, and ended up with a big colitis flare and lupus flare.
I would really be careful with aloe whether you have intestinal problems or not.
Take care Jude

Hi,

I have my own theory as to why "so many" people write testaments about various products on the market. Usually there is an additional advice to stop drinking cokes, increase the veggies in the diet, stop eating too many sweets, etc. etc.
Of course if you just follow that advice and not buy the product you are apt to feel better, to one degree or another.

Aloe juice right off the plants is supposed to help with burns and scars.

Take care,
Karen

Just an aside about aloe vera juice. I have no idea how it affects the immune system and seriously I doubt it does much in that regard. The stuff doesn't stay in the body long enough to have much of an effect. It is a serious colon flusher. And it tastes dreadful. But if you have a bottle, just put it in the fridge and use it for burns, bruises, sunburns, sore muscles and the other little dings of life.

:) Thanks everyone.

I think I'll leave all natural products alone.......I don't need any other problems :) I was told that aleo vera would be good to clear up acne............oh well......back to plain old dial soap.
