Hey everyone!

Am not quite sure what to do here, really vain question LOL, but my friends and I have been planning a beauty type night for ages and they want to straighten my curly locks for a laugh but I have never used hair straighteners on my hair and since I have been on Methotrexate since December my hair has got a fair bit thinner than it used to be although there's still enough of it! :D

Anyway just wanted to ask if anyone is on Methotrexate and uses hair straighteners without any problems (i.e. causing more hair loss etc...)?? (if it helps I am just starting 17.5mg of Methotrexate).

Thanks a lot!

Hi there

i am not on that drug but would imagine that as long as you protect your hair using a heat protective serum you should be fine.

I have hairloss around the hairline where it has gone thin and a patch at the back where it has snapped half way down. My rhumy said this is due to the illness and not the chemical abuse I subject it to, I have loose afro hair naturally but i chemically straighten it and colour it, as long as you look after it as well as you can I would say go for it! i use straightening irons about once a week, make sure you blow it straight with a hair dryer first and then finish off with the irons.

Hope it looks good and you enjoy your night

 Hi Starlight,
I've been on metho for about 6 months now. I am now taking 7.5 mgs. I'm easing off of it. Anyway, I straighten my hair all the time. I have alot of hair to begin with. Don't think I lost any or at least I can't tell. Hope this helps.
Love, Pam :flowers:

 Good morning!

I do not know about the medication and hair straightening, but my daughter colors her hair alot which dries it out and when she would go to straighten it, it would break. She got a product from Regis hair salon called GET IT PRESSED and it helps by "putting a barrier" around your hair. Also she has a conditioner by BED HEAD called DUMB BLONDE and that helped alot as well.Knowing that curling irons, etc can damage your hair thought I would pass them along. Not sure if you would need or have access to these products, but she swears by them and her hair is not so brittle now. Your night sounds like fun!

Thanks for the replies- guess I should just go ahead and try it. That's the only way to find out really. But I will give the heat protective serum stuff a try as I have seen it in the shops, just don't want to lose anymore hair than I already have, and only just went up from the 15mg MTX tablets to the 17.5mg recently. But am sure it'll be a fun evening anyway :D
