Unfortunately, I have never heard of anything that cures lupus. It is a lifelong disease that has some remissions and flares. There are some charlatans out there who either think quite highly of themselves or are out to get your money.
Some herbs can even be harmful, so please be careful.
I used to think that I'd never be the kind of person who took dozens of meds a day, but, guess what! Life slowly sneaked up on me. I'm now one of those people. Yet, I'm not upset about it because each med. has its purpose and its role in treating my disease. I know what happens when I don't take them.
I'm glad there is such a thing as modern medicine so I can live as full a life as I can. That wasn't an option 50 years ago.
You might want to do some research before you see the naturopath. Dr. Daniel Wallace's The Lupus Book is very good for that. There's also a lot on the internet.
Take care! :flowers:

Sorry no one can cure Lupus. Alot of those herbs can cause flares,
I would be very careful with some of these herbs or your daughter might end up
a very seriously ill person. Take Care. Jude
PS Yes I have tried herbs, and ended up in the hospital.

hi, i went to a naturpathic clinic when i was first sick because i was in denial that my illness was as serious as it is. i ended up spending a lot of money on remedies that didnt help. there is no known cure for lupus. as sue has said i didnt think i would ever be taking a pile of meds either, but i do. please be very, very careful as these drugs are life saving for us lupies, changing a dose or stopping meds completely should only be done with your drs permission.

Hi Donna.
Was wondering if you can explain a little more about this.

Hi Donna-I recently replied to another post called "Other Treatments" in this forum. If you read that, it will detail MY experience with using only holistic treatments.
Presently, my Dr. is both a medical Dr. AND a naturopath so I get a nice mix of medicine and natural alternatives that is comfortable for me. Of course I also see my rheumatologist regularly.
It is MY personal belief that if the lupus is in the early stage and is very mild with no kidney or organ involovement, it MAY be possible in a rare few, to stop the progression of lupus and become "healed". But, I would never see ONLY a naturopath or chiropractor without being monitored by a rheumatologist! I would be wary of any practitioner who suggests you see only him or says that he can definitely cure you. Again, JMO.
I've heard some amazing stories from acquaintances about them following regimented diets and programs and getting well. For this, one must be extremely disciplined and I think most people aren't able to follow through (emotionally or financially) with the rigors, restrictions, and sometimes detoxyfying side-effects.
Be careful and best wishes! Kiley

Hi,
10 years ago I turned to "alternative" healers as I was not well and I was caught in a horrible HMO nightmare that was offering me no alternatives. I did eventually go into remission and stayed in remission for approx 6.5 years. I thought I would never get sick again. I truly believed the chiropractor and others that I worked with that I was "healed".
When I came out of remission on December 28, 2002 I was in shock. In a couple weeks i was far sicker than I had been the first 8 years before remission. One of the products I was using at the time was echinacea and another was all my "supplements" had alfalfa sprouts as their base. Those items are both known to cause problems with lupus.
Needless to say I have come to the conclusion that my lupus was in remission sooner than my fibromyalgia (which I didn't even know at that time that I had it) and that all the money I spent was mostly in vain. Since none of those products kept me from coming out of remission and as stated above some of them most likely caused my remission to end.
