Hey All,

As some of you may remember I filed for SSDI a while back. I had gotten another denial, so my atty filed for a hearing. I got a letter from SS today requesting original W-2 forms. My atty's office said she had never heard of SSDI requesting these before and said, "gee, maybe they're going to approve you! But don't get your hopes up."
I then called SSDI office as I last worked in Feb 2003. I do not have the original w-2's as we lost our home when we lost my income, during our move the originals were lost, never returned to employer, me or the accountants office where they originated. I was sent a copy of the employers W-2 to file with my taxes. When I called SS they said I should send a copy of what I do have and a letter attached as to why I don't have originals.

Anyone else ever have this happen? I know I shouldn't get me hopes up, and I'm really trying not to, but oohhhh it would be soooo greaaaaat!

Hi Michele,

No that was never requested of me that I can remember. I would call ss on Monday to see what is up. Do you have a name of the person that is working on your case?

Maybe the are seeing how many quarters you have in. I don't know. I would try to get a hold of someone or ask your attorney to do so. That is what they are getting paid for.

I use to contact my adjuntor all the time but I hear that it can vary by state.

Best of luck

Elaine

Michelle,

It could also be that your social security number is being used by another person. I am just guessing. I never had to supply mine.

Definitely have your attorney look into this. Elaine is right they are getting 25% of your back-pay check when you get approved.

I have just filed about a month ago. They DID require my W-2's. I thought it a bit strange since disability wasn't based on how much you made. When I applied I took mine into the SS Office and she made a copy and returned the original to me.

Hello,

I filled in Jan this year, and one of the many things they have asked for is copies of my W-2 PLUS last few years of tax returns!!

Still hoping for mine, If I were you I woud send what I could with a letter stating what has happened to you.

Take care and good luck, Steffanee

I applied this last Jan, too, and I don't recall having to send in W-2's. But I did have to send in a voided check. That surprised me.

Then again, my memory isn't what is once was (a major understatement!)

The voided check is for direct deposit information. They also asked me how much money I have in the bank

Yellowrose and others,

I know that when I filed for SSDI I had to also file for SSI even when I said there is no way I qualify for SSI. It could be that you are eligible for SSI while your SSDI application makes its rounds. For SSI you have to ahve less than $2000 in the bank that is why I am thinking at least part of it is the SSI part.

It also sounds like they are now requiring W-2's or tax returns, but that may only be true in some states and not all. That is part of the keep you guessing that social security seems to do.

About a month after I filed I received a denial letter for the SSI but my soc sec clerk told me to expect that.
