Thank you everyone.
We celebrated our 32nd Wedding Anniversary! Really great.
I used to work in a bakery and I got to help the cake lady to the cakes, she showed me how to lots of things, its fun. I dont do it as often as I used to...hand dont quite work as well any more, but I still try.
Thanks for all the nice words.
Love Ellen

Hello Joanne
I am glad you liked the cake.

I baked the cake in a Heart Shaped 16" pan.
Its a regular two layer cake.

I have a 55 piece decorating set, it has all different shapes and size tubes to use. You will also need a pastry bag. Some places sell them with the decorating sets.

First frost the cake as you normally would.
Once it is all frosted then you use the tubes (whatever shape you want) to decorat it. I liked the ruffle effect. There as so many tubes to use to get all different shapes. Before making them on the cake practice on a piece of wax paper first so you can see what it looks like.
If you like the ruffle effect like I did...start at the bottom of the cake and work your way up to the top, gently squeeze the pastry bag and dab the frosting on the cake, its like making individual lines or dots, you do one at a time, it takes a long time to do it, but it comes out good.

Have fun with it.

I have large rose tubes that I used to make the rose. Again practice with it till you make a rose. Its just basically over lapping the icing.

You will need food coloring to get the different colors.

I hope this was helpful... Good Luck and Happy Anniversary
Ellen

Wow, your cake is a hot topic!! I see why. Now you've got me craving sweets.

I worked at Baskin-Robbins in highschool and had the most fun making and especially decorating ice-cream cakes. It's easier than it looks.

Don't know if my hands would hold up nowdays to decoratiing but it sure is fun.

Thanks for taking me back to a good memory and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!

32 years is quite the accomplishment! (We won't make it to our 10th) :nono:

So, Hats off to you! :hello:  :woohoo: :highfive:
