Hiya everyone  ,

I have noticed over the last few days that I seem to be developing alot of perspiration that is turning very quickly into a very strong odour. I am not on any lupus meds as I am not dxed with lupus as yet.
The meds I am taking are as follows :-

Mobic 7.5mg 1 twice a day
Omeprazole 20mg once a day
Cipralex anti dep 10mg
amitrytaline 30mg
and finally co-codamol 30/500mg Pain killer (could be called Kapak in US not sure)

I have been taking mobic, omeprazole and amitryptline for nearly 7 weeks now and I was wondering whether it could be one oh these meds that are making my body odour strong. I am washing and showering everyday and always have done I wear anti persperant but even that isn't helping now. Hubby says he can't smell anything but I can so I am self consious about it .
If you have had any experience of this and know of anything that can help I would love to know before the whole thing stops me from going out all together incase I offend other peoples noses

Thanks in advance
Love as always
Dawn :flowers:

Hi, Dawn! ;)
You didn't say anything about diet, but what's in your diet can affect the way you smell. People who eat a high protein diet have a stronger body smell than people who don't. People with a diet based more on fruits and vegetables have the least strong odor.

Herbs and seasonings can affect body odor, too. If you eat a lot of garlic or onions it can lead to a much stronger perspiration odor.

The B vitamins can also change the way your body smells if taken in large amounts. Lecithin is another supplement that can change body odor.

One thing that might help is taking over the counter chlorophyll tablets available at the drug store. These can help decrease the problem of unwanted odors.

It's also possible that you don't have an odor problem at all, but in fact have a problem with a change in your sense of smell. Just my 2 cents.

Some medications can be excreted with sweat. This can cause a noticable smell for some people.
You do not mention if you are taking vitamins but this can also do this if on high or mega doses of vitamins.
In addition some items such as antiperspirants, soaps and perfumes can at times react diferently with a persons body chemistry and smell very bad.
If it is a med or a vitamin that is causing it very often the smell will be real close to the smell of the med or vitamin if you open the bottle and smell it.
If one of the other items I mention are reacting bad with your system it wont smell like anything that you have ever smelled before and may take some experimentation to find what it is that is causing it.

 Hiya,

Angela I have not changed my diet at all really with the exception of maybe missing a meal usually lunch. I do tend to eat alot of herbs that are cooked with the meals garlic is one that is used alot in our household :D but it is not that kind of smell I know the smell of garlic coming out from the skin (not pleasant ).
The one thing I have noticed that you mentioned is my sense of smell. I have found that it has increased and that things that were mild are now alot stronger so maybe you are right about that. Thanks :D

Teri I wil mention it to my doc at my next appointment it could be a mix of anything I guess. Thanks hun :D

RBW I am not taking any vitamin suppliments, I was advised against it until we have a deffinate diagnosis or not (don't ask me why lol) anyway I don't see what difference it would make :hyper: . I guess my body chemistry could have changed recently and my anti persperant just isn't working as well as it used to anymore  and I need to try something different. I very rearly use perfumes and body sprays if it is a special occasion maybe but then I need to get the trowel out to put on the make up as well  I don't do that very often either.
Thanks :D

My family don't seem to have noticed anything either that or they are just being polite and not saying anything for fear they will offend me or upset me I don't know my 4 year old wouldn't bother she would probably come out and say mummy you smell :hehe: out of the mouths of babes and all that  . My 13 year old would be a bit more tactful and would probably run me a bath as her way of treating me (I shower more) with bubbles in  Hubby would just come out and say why don't you go for a shower he doesn't have tact  as for the rest of my family they would probably not say anything at all. Which is worse saying nothing or tact and diplomacy?

Anyway thanks to you for replying and giving me some ideas I really appreciate it.
Take care Love Dawn :flowers:

Um.
If this has just started I should think it's due to your recent illness and/or meds for that. Just to be sure, get tested for diabetes and kidney probs if you haven't been recently.

I would drink a lot of water and cut out animal fats to see if that helped. Is there something like charcoal pills ? That rings some dim bell maybe I am thinking of bulbs in pots.

How about trying a product with tea tree oil in it.

I hope it clears up soon - very depressing to pong on top of everything else

This is interesting, as I have been wondering it myself. My urine seems to smell really funny lately. It seems to have started about the time I started taking sucralfate. I've been wondering if my whole body smells bad, but nobody will tell me if it does.

Anybody else on sucralfate? (Carafate)?

Sue, I have noticed that my urine has a strong odor too. I don't know what it is either. Just noticed it is very strong.
