Hi Everyone

I was referred to these message boards by willow :)

I have just moved from South Africa to the UK to study here and was wondering whether anyone can recommed a knowledgable rheumatologist in England, preferably near Southampton. If not, anywhere in UK, please.

I was diagnosed in December last year and up until now I haven't needed treatment. Unfortunately things have deteriorated and my SA doctor recommended that I start treatment asap. As moving to a different country causes a lot of stress, and might trigger a flare (this is exactly what happened to me when I moved to a different city in SA last year), I'd like to get to a good doctor soon.

Thanks so much for your help

:)

Hello macaroni

There is an excellent lupus centre in Southhampton run I believe by the son -in -law of Dr Hughes the renowned lupologist at St Thomas hospital. You will need to register with a GP and ask for a referral.

All the best

Dr Edwards has a weekly lupus clinic at Southampton General hospital. As Clare said, get registered with a GP (the university health centre is good if you're a student at the university) and ask to be referred to him. He is a rheumatologist and has a specific interest in lupus.

Good luck!

MANCHESTER UK, the MRI (Manchester Royal Infirmary) has a great lupus clinic (if such a thing can be called 'great") I see Dr Ian Bruce who is really understanding and also a nice person, which is good I think. I have great confidence in him and also in the Lupus Nurse there, Jo, who is lovely. They both come highly recommended by me. Lupus UK are good at putting you in touch with a lupus sufferer local to you who can help you with specialist names.
