Hi All,
I've been down about my body for a long time, and have decided to try to have implants.I was wondering if anyone had this done with lupus?
I know this sounds a bit self centered but after all I have been through with lupus I know this is for me and my general wellbeing.

The general usual advice is that it is highly inadvisable, sorry to say.
Although never proved in class actions in the USA, there is plenty of evidence that auto-immune processes of some sort may well be triggered by implants which might stimulate the immune system.
There is also the risk of leakage and the whole thing going badly wrong- which they don't ever discuss in the make- over programmes. They also make sure the participants are in normal good health, with no risk factors.
So the risk is provoking a flare if you already have lupus, as with any surgical procedure even if medically necessary, and there is always the increased risk of infection for many of us.
You need to ask your doctor about you, whatever other people's experience might have been. Then decide for yourself if the risk is worth it.
Take care
Clare

Hi, hippy! ;)
I agree that the decision is between you and your doctors... ALL of them. You need all the input and factual information you can get before you commit to something that will cause permanent scars.
As was said, ANY kind of trauma, including planned elective surgery has risks and will likely lead to a flaring of symptoms if you already have an autoimmune disorder such as lupus.
You are the only one who can make the determination as to whether the risks are worth the benefits. Get all the information you can, though, before you commit.

Hi Hippy  . Though I am afraid that Clare. T is absolutely correct in saying that it's not advisable to get implants if you have an auto-immune illness (or any serious medical illnesses), maybe you can try enhancing undergarments? This is coming from a female with A cups. I am 19 and though I was directed by my ortho not to get piercings or tattoos, I just got 4 piercings and 1 tattoo and i'm not done. I just take antibiotics and take proper care of it. The way I figure is, I can do everything "right" and still flare up. I am determined to live my life the way I would have w/o Lupus. If you are really determined to do it, just be FULLY aware of your risks and make sure you can take at least a month to recuperate. Also, I have SLE, if you have DLE I would seriously think about if you want to risk the operation. In any case, talk to your Rheumy about it.
P.S when I started taking prednisone, I ballooned from water retention, once I took a great diuretic, I lost a serious amount of weight fairly quickly and I was a small B at the time and now, like I said, i'm a small A. I asked my ortho if I could try herbal pills that some claim increases bust size, she said that my only option for enlargement is implants. I didn't ask anything further, but maybe that was a sign that it is OK, since she didn't say that was my only option BUT I shouldn't do that...
let's us know what you decide, best of luck!
