View Full Version : white heads
hi
i have little white heads on my face i have a cluster of about four of them on both my temples they just stay there and do not seem to cause a problem. but i also a couple on the end of my nose and the skin around them has turned red style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/aww.gif
i have had this happen before during the summer when my face had a bad reaction to the sun and as a result i ended up going to the doc's and was prescribed anti biotics tablets and cream and i was taking the anti biotic tablets for ages until i saw a dermatologist at the hospital who asked me to stop taking the tablets to see what happend. i do not go back to the hospital until january and i really don't want to start taking anti biotic tablets again so i was wondering if any one had any ideas.
my skin is very sensitive and i have had a red nose and cheeks for years and the dermatologist has taken blood tests to check for lupus and i have already been diagnosed with another immune disorder.
would be gratefull for any ideas.

Problems such as this are very common for people. Some possible causes can be oily skin, a job that subjects you to stuff that blocks or clogs the poors of your skin.
And I have been told that some medications will also make a person more likely to get this.
About all that you can do is try a very mild cleanser and clean the areas several times a day to try and stop poors from being blocked and keep oil away.
If this does not work then your Derm. should be your best source of advice to see what he recommends since it is in his specialty area.
He may have some other treatments that will help you. If he recommends something like accutane read all of the information very carefully and think about it very long and hard prior to useing it.
This medication is known to cause very severe birth defects. At first it was just supposed to be during the time a person was taking it but we have since heard that they now suspect that people who have used it are having the problems for years to come after it is stopped.
This is primarily used as a acne medication but 15 years ago or so some doctors were experimenting with it on Lupus Patients because some Lupus patients who had been given it for other problems showed some improvment in Lupus and they felt it could be linked.

thanks for you informative reply
i have succumbed and gone back to the doctors (g.p.) not dermatologist (don't see her untill feb 06) i went because of the itching and the red skin that had appeared under the white heads. my doctor was disugsted at the length of time between my appointments with the dermatologist and her attitude - which was half soaked to say the least style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hissy1.gif
anyway the doctor seems to think that i have roseacea (adult acne) and i am back on the antibiotic tablets and cream - as long as it cures it i am ok with that. although he is not ruling out lupus all together at this point.
the ironic thing is that i have a very dry skin - and never had acne as a child. i am carefull of what i put on my face because my skin is very sensitive.
once again thank you for your reply style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/Thanx.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/foryou.gif

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/coffee.gif Good Morning!!!
I have noticed such an increase of white heads and black heads that you would swear that I was going thru puberty again (I am 35) style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/crying.gif ! I have tried washing with plain soap and water with no results and am now trying Clearsil and they have some kind of three step method ..according to my teenage daughter who has beautiful skin..little stinker!! I just figured it must be a reaction from one of my meds, the make-up I am using, or something but I am getting very self-concious about it, so much that I will not go out without makeup. I am sorry to hear yet glad that someone else is having the same problem as I am having. Maybe together we can come up with a method of attack style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hissy1.gif !! If not, then it is off to the Derm. Would kinda not like to go there as I see too many doctors now!

I have had horrible acne, and have found a couple of gentle products work better than the really strong stuff. I use a very inexpensive product from Nuetrogena, which has vitamins and salicylic acid (aspirin!). I put it all over my face twice a day (under makeup) and it has evened my skin tone (I've had horrible scarring) and helped my skin generally... To the point where friends have really noticed. When they took it off the market briefly to try to market more expensive options, I threw a fit, and it re-appeared. It's called multi vitamin acne treatment.
When I couldn't get it I used a similar product from Olay, but it is much thicker and not so good under makeup. This stuff is about 6.$ per 2.5 ounces, and is a gentle way to treat adult sensitive skin.

well the white heads on my nose have gone and the skin is a little less red thank goodness. i will try the products by neutrogena and see if they help at all. at the moment i am using simple moisturising lotion and also simple no soap facial wash as well as the antibiotic cream and tablets from the doctor. i must admit the one thing i am not good at doing is using sun screen on my face this time of year - got to get used to the fact that i need to use it all year round again i use simple facial sun screen factor 45.
will keep you updated on how things go.

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wavey.gif Hi, I also have skin that has changed recently from being only the malar rash everday to doing crazy things, I never had any skin problems as a teenager, but I have had eczema all my life,.so instead of oily skin I had dry,I am 36 and have been to see a dermatoligist also as recently I keep getting abscesses and they have caused me to go into hospital 3 times this year to get cut and drained, they are to do with my SLE and are called Hydradentis suppurativa, when I get small white heads I put magnesium sulphate on them and this works by drawing the white stuff out, and reduces the redness,It is very good. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jump.gif Best of luck.
