I have recently been diagnosed with SLE and just learned my kidneys are also involved. I am planning to get a second opinion and am wondering if anyone can give me feedback on how to do this. Currently, I am considering Michelle Petri at Johns Hopkins and Jill Buyon at NYU. If anyone has had any experience with them or knows who is better for kidney's, I would appreciate any feedback! Thank you! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif

All I know is that they are both well-known in the lupus community. From what I've heard they are both good. You might Google them and see what you get. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/flowers.gif

In NYC I'd probably go for The Hospital for Special Surgery Lupus Center headed by Dr Michael Lockshin or the Hospital for Joint Diseases, where I think Dr Buyon is based. Her special interest seems to be pregnancy and neonatal lupus.

They refer to other specialists as necessary.

I don't know either of them as a patient just seen & met them at conferences.

Good luck

Clare

You didn't mention what part of the country you are in. Your stats seem to indicate you are in the Mountain Time Zone. If this is correct, there are several excellent specialists at National Jewish Hospital in Denver.

Are they fairly approachable and/or personable from you experiences meeting them at conferences?

Yes very friendly and kind ! I accompanied a friend to consult with Dr Lockshin too . I am a great fan of Dr Buyon. She actually told me that if I or anybody else had questions about neonatal lupus, lupus pregnancies etc they were welcome to contact her and she would do her best to answer.

Good luck
Clare
