well i asked last year about her having a blood test...i was told wait until she is older.
she is 14....and i know we all worry about our children but as a lupie mum i think we all worry bout will our children develope something else.
my son is 17 and def has raynauds...well i sy def he hasnt had blood tests but his hands and feet are dreadful...also he developed severe migraines we have been back and forward to the gp to be told its hormonal, dont get me wrong we so hope it is,but i dont want to take any chances.
Our daughter has started to get little sores in her head, this so reminds me of when i was her age...she often complains of what some parents would saythose famous growingpains...so we decided enough is enough we want them both testing..
Then last night she said mum i have these funny lumps in my neck,i thought oh maybe glands...but there not where glands are....she had 1 last night ,today theres 3...so wed we have her at the dr...........
just wondering if anyone has any feedback.

Just wanted to wish you luck, I understand how worrying it is where your children are concerned with symptoms. I hope that blood tests will give you a clearer idea of what may be going on.

Hi Christine
I just wanted to wish you luck - I can relate to your worries about your children as I am sure most of us do.

If my kids were having symptoms I would certainly want them tested but I can't see the point in it if they aren't. Why worry everybody & even if they have antibodies it doesn't mean they will get lupus they are commonly high in relatives with them, so I have read
I would want those head sores checked - it could be discoid and anyway they need treating. As you know "growing pains" can be a sign too. If it is discoid then that needs treating even if there are no other signs of systemic lupus.
I would also ask for an anti Ro antibody test at some stage ( neo natal lupus )
I certainly would insist on my son being tested with those symptoms, for APS too. It runs in families as well and almost as common in men as in women, I seem to remember.
Good luck Chris

Well saw the Dr.
He says the lumps are glands, but said could see why we were so worried because theres so many of them and not in a regular place.
He said her throat looked a little red,but possibly not enough to make all these glands come up and be so tender.
he said he feels theres a virus lurking and to keep a close eye as it may be Glandular fever.
she has been very tired of late and sleeps at the drop of an hat.
I spoke with him about the lupus and the scalp scabs etc,he said well you know theres no actual test for lupus....so when they happen again and she gets the other symptoms bring her in as iw ant to look at them and then we will take it from there also when her joints ache he would like to do her ESR...
soooo we will keep a watchful eye............ style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hugbetter.gif

Hi...I just joined today and I know this reply is a little late! I have SLE and everything else...I have been dx for about 9 years now...it all began with a blood clot during my daughters pregnancy...anyways...many years later my daughter and son started to show signs all too familiar to me! Of course everybody wants to say it's probably just them mimicking me...well my son is ok really but my daughter 8yrs is in alot of pain...back in 2002 they both were tested and there results from the DNA and ANA were positive and a high titer so they were dx with lupus. We are military and so we move alot and change docs...since then the dx have been taken away and just left as arthritis. For the past 3 months now my daughter has been having sever body pain joints and muscles and some other familiar symptoms. The doctor thinks she may need to see a psychiatrist to make sure she's not mimicking me, but at the same time wonders if she should see the rheumi! This is driving me insane...There is not any swelling or redness and so she doesn't thing she had arthritis...although I told her I never have had swelling or redness either! Mornings are painful for her and it just kills me to see her like this...The doctor has run some labwork, but I don't think enough.
How did your kids appointment go??? I pray you and they are doing better.
God Bless, Donna style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hugbetter.gif
Donna --- I am sorry, but how cruel is your doctor? Perhaps he needs to see a pschiatrist! What could make him think that an 8 year old child is imatating her mother? If she was, u would probably see inconsistancies I would think and you could ignore the pain. I was once told by a doctor that ignoring a child's pain is a good choice. They explained to me that most children do not invent such stuff. Being so sick so often, I am a bit immune and unsympathetic at times to illness or pains. Therefore I blow off stuff that I probably should give more attention to with my family members. Anyway, my point being is that I sincerely doubt you daughter would invent such severe pain.
Is your daughter having fevers? Doesn't she already have RA? or something?
Don't get me wrong. Seeing a pschologist, or pyschiatrist, to deal with various problems is a good thing, or can be. As long as it doesn't cause internal confusion for your daughter or cause you or her to question if she is sick or a hypochondriac.
As lupies we can often push stuff off as it is. And, if you learn to do this at a young age because you no longer trust your judgement, then what kind of ramifications will this have on you as you grow older?
I also feel compelled to point out that if your daughter is a lupus patient, she will be dealing with this disease for a very long time. You can just scan through this site and see the many experiences with uneducated doctors that know nothing about the disease and cause more problems then they help. By educating your daughter as she grows up that it is simply management and learning to live with life as it comes, she will be able to cope better with the disease in my opinion. It is good that at least you both know the symptoms of lupus and some of the triggers so that you can try to avoid flare-ups as best as possible.
My heart goes out for you...
Goodluck,
J
Shame on that doctor Donna style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hissy1.gif I think you need to remind him of her past positive ANA & DNA - the rest of what I feel cant be stated on a public forum !
