Hello everyone,
My son Craig who is 16 is tying me up in knots with worry.
He has been ill more than he's been well over the last 12 months .He gets one virus after another .
I'll start from the very beginning.
I only put 1 stone throughout the pregnancy .
He was born at 41 weeks weighing 7 pounds 2 ounces and 54 cms in length.
His skin was paper thin ,very dry with folds of skin ,the doctor said he would need feeding up.He developed a rash all over while in the hospital.
He was readmitted at 11 days old because of a respiratory infection.
He was a poor feeder and difficult to wind.He projectile vomitted regulary up to the age of 3yrs and suffered very bad diarrhea(sp)
He suffered eczema, glue ear ,tonsillitis chronically,he was tested for diabetes at 3yrs because he had excessive thirst -he used to drink 2 pints of liquid during the night,(first faint), he was physchologically assessed at 3yrs also,He had 2 sets of grommets inserted before the age of 6,He's had a history of faints (mainly because of medical and dental procedures)mildly asthmatic,He has very bad hayfever resulting in lots of time off in hayfever season(if we send him to school they send him back)dermographic skin, his skin is very sensitive to touch (he gets petechia)He is almost 6 foot tall and is stick thin but eats like a horse ,he's got a tremor. (can't think of anything else at the moment)
Since last winter he has had a proper raised butterfly rash (not all the time), like I mentioned before he's had virus after virus ,he's suffered with knee pain (was investigated for oswald shlatters disease (sp) but nothing was found.
Last thursday he suffered a dizzy turn outside his college(he goes one day a week from school) he ended up hitting the floor. On friday he had to have 2 teeth removed at the hospital under general anaesthetic ,he ended up in a bed with oxygen for a couple of hours because he had a fainting turn. The nurse was worried and wanted him to have a bloodtest.
oOn sunday he had a mouth full of ulcers ,his throat and mouth were all inflammed by tuesday .He started suffering with tiredness (falling asleep during the day)He got up this morning suffering with dizziness and his face rash is very vivid.

Craig is VERY needle phobic (to the point he has his teeth filled without having his gums numbed) what can I do?Do you think I'm worrying for nothing? Please help.

Hi there !! I am sorry that your son is feelng so badly. You don't say what he has been treated for or tested for or by what type of doctor. Can he see an immunologist? Or a dermatologist? Or a rhemotologist?
If he hasn't been treating for anything and has not been seen for these symptoms, I would make an appointment with the primary care physician and bring a list of all his symptoms, histories so that they may direct you further. I say the immunologist because he keeps catching things and of his allergies. A dermatologist for the rashes he gets and a rhemotologist for the knee and pain symptoms. Also to be concerned of his dizziness. He must be low on something causing him to pass out. Has blood work been checked?

Well, just so you know, I am no doctor but these are suggestions of what I would do if it were my son. I hope that he feels better soon and you too.

It is aweful when you worry about your children and can't do anything for them. I think pursuing this further is the best you can do.

Angie,
I don't think that you are overreacting, but I do think that tests may need to be done, especially if this is something that may run in the family. You can never be too careful. My prayers are with you and your family. Please let us know how things go.

I don't think you're overreacting at all. I'd be worried sick if I were you. I don't understand why the docs haven't done more investigating by now.

I hope you find some answers as soon as possible. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hugbetter.gif

I don't think you are over reacting either. You are being a loving, caring, worried mom, as anyone would be.

I'm so sorry your son has to put up with all that. You must feel so powerless, and at the mercy of the docs.

It's unbearable to have to watch our children suffer.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your son style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/flowers.gif

You are certainly not neurotic or over reacting, I'd be worried sick too. I hope you find
an answer to your son's illness and he feels better soon.

Take care

You aren't over-reacting at all. Trust your own instints they are right on. I pray that this is nothing serious but it does warrant farther investigation. It is much too hard to watch them suffer and better to have things throughly looked into. Some Doctors mean well, but are clueless as to what tests to perform. I'd have all blood work picked to peices to find out everything.
Best wishes,

Ruth style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/flowers.gif

I agree with everyone else - no way are you over-reacting. We'd all be worried if we were in your shoes. Especially agree with Ruth - instincts are your best guide. And be kind to yourself Angie style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/foryou.gif

I do hope you get some answers very soon, so he can start to get better. My best wishes to you both.

Thanks so much for all your replies ,my son has had yet another viral infection which knocked him off his feet for 8 days. We had to take him to an emergency Gp at the weekend because he was getting worse and he gave him antibiotics.

The state of play at the moment is .he will not have any bloodtests , I've even told him I'll pay him.
He is very needle phobic ,he passes out .

I've decided not to push him too much at the moment but to remind him every time that he is ill .
He will be due to either go to college or start work in just a fwe months (he wants to get a plumbing apprenticeship ) He needs to get his health sorted because no-one will employ him if he's ill all the time.

Thanks again

Love
