Hi everyone. I don't usaully post in this section, but I'm up and worried and having a hard time sleeping. My 4 year old has a very large swollen lymph node in her groin and I took her in to Dr. today. Even though he said it could just be an infection, was very concerned being as he had never seen one that big that fast before and wanted to run a bunch of bloodwork and x-ray. She was a real trooper about it all, being a first for her. Well, tonight at around 10:00 the doctor calls the house himself. Says the hospital couldn't get ahold of me and that they were all concerned that my daugher's platelet count was very low. 17,000, I beleive he said. Said to watch her for bleeding and bruising. Wants us in in the morning to retest to see if it was a lab mistake. If not, then we need to have more tests right away. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/crying.gif While I know that when you hear galloping feet not to assume elephant before horse, but being my child, my baby, its not that easy. I'm trying to not worry myself sick, literally, but prob. not succeding at it very well. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes. Well ,we called the Dr.s office first thing today and the 2nd platelet count came back ok. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/highfive.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/woohoo.gif 150,000. It looks like a lab error. What a relief! So its on with the antibiotics and if it doesn't resolve after that, then more tests and possibly a biopsy. But i'm on style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cloud9.gif that its not leukemia like was suggested (with the large lymph node and low platelets.) Bless you guys and hope you are all having a pain-free day! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/flowers.gif

Christine Lupus Lady,
Hi. Her lymph node thats swollen is in the right side of the groin. It is visable and roughly the size of a small egg.

Update on my little one. The lump hasen't gone away, if anything has gotten bigger, following the antibiotics. So now we've got an appt. with a ped. surgeon on the 1rst for a biopsy.( and possible removal if needed.) Thanks again for all the well wishes. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/flowers.gif

I hope all goes well with the biopsy and its nothing to be concerned about - good luck style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/clover.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hugbetter.gif

I hope it goes down before they have to do the biopsy or remove it or something. I had something similar happen. One day the lymph on the right side of my next swelled huge. It was like you say, the size of a small egg and very painful. Mine was sudden onset instead of gradual onset so they suspected an infection. It came back that I had "weak positive" for EBV so they said i had mono. They told me to take advil and drink lots of fluids and rest. Eventually it went down but it seems like it took forever. A year later I had a strong positive for EBV. Then my glands would swell on and off.
Definitely keep an eye on it. I never had many health issues before this happened.
