With the weather change here and home heating.. wood/oil my skin has changed over night
it is so dry it hurts.. I have started using baby oil during and after bathing. it is helping somewhat
the biggest problem is my face. it is very dry and the wind has not helped. I am out for several short walks a day... before going out I have tried putting vaseline on it
I can not use anything with perfume. it burns my skin... so far everything I have tried has the same affect
any ideas would be very welcomed.. being in the country it gets very cold and windy here. so I need protection as well as moisterising,

HI goats!
I don't sell this stuff but a friend of mine does. You can find it at www.sensaria.com. It's like a at home party company. But you can buy directly from the web site. But any way their products are all natural and all that good stuff. I have very senitive skin too and everything I've used has been great. I think there's some sort of $ back thing if you don't like it or it doesn't work for you. And I just started the shampoo which is supposed to help with the not losing of hair problem so many of us have. Like I said i just started so I can't say if that works or not. It is a bit pricey ( compared to target prices) but I think worth it for some comfort. Any way good luck with your quest. Feel Better!

Hi guys,
I don't have skin rash with my lupus but I do have very dry skin and I have to tell you about a cream my sister gave me. It's called "no crack" Its almost like a paste. It goes on very smooth and feels so good and is not greasy and it smells wonderful.
She got it at a hardware store in the USA! I know, strange place to find skin cream. Maybe they were marketing it towards manly hands (as mine are!) style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif
I don't know what else to tell you about it except that it comes in a no frills white plastic jar with red lettering and is made by the Dumont Company in Lacrosse, Wisconsin, USA 54603. It's worth looking for!

Hi Carol,
Do you use soap? Its best if you dont no matter what sort it is. I use a soap alternative called QV Wash its for sensitive dry skin, Cetaphil also make a similar thing.
After that it depends on how dry your skin is, you could try sorbolene and glycerine, if thats not enough there are various other preparations on the market. The best ones are those that contain 10% urea and states they are for very dry skin. You can use most of those on your face too. If thats still not enough then my doc told me about something called Calmurid (which is with those other ones in the pharmacy with urea in them). For me its been the best so far. I dont use that on my face though, I've actually gone back to using Nivea there and whilst it does have a slight perfume it is one of the few things that I dont seem to react to.
If you start getting cracks in fingers or heels then Eucarin? sp? make a good product. Or if you dont want the expense of that then I use anhydrous lanolin (wool fat) its great and will heal a crack in a couple of days.
Happy slathering style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif and so good to hear from you again Carol.

Dont know if you can get it but Aqueous cream is wonderful...water based and if your skin is really dry use it has a wash with a little bit of water...its what they use in hospital worked a treat for me. x

Aquaphor "for severely dry skin" is made by Eucerin and contains 41% "petrolatum" as the active ingredient, then mineral oil, ceresin, and lanolin alcohol.
It looks and feels like petrolium (Vaseline) BUT has no odor and feels lighter than Vaseline.
My son's pediatrician recommended it for his diaper rash, way back when, and it disappeared overnight!
Since then I've always thought it was miracle stuff. I use it on my heels since my "No Crack" is gone and I can't find it locally in stores.
Used to be over the counter (don't know why!) but now its right out on the shelves and they've started selling it in smaller quantities. Your best buy is the 14oz jar at about $15.00.
And like Lily said, anhydrous lanolin is GREAT too for cracks! This stuff is REALLY cheap and a little goes a long way. I got a tube for a buck over the counter.
People pay small fortunes for froo froo stuff when there are simple inexpensive remedies out there that work even better.
Good luck this winter. Hope you find something you like that works good for you.

<span style="color:#FF9900">I do not have Lupus rash either but have patches of dry skin. I use 100% Emu Oil which also can be purchased online. I live in Oklahoma and there is an Emu Farm here, the people that own the farm sell it at the mall. It is non-comedgenic sp? and if your skin is very dry it soaks right in, it is good for everything kind of like aloe vera.
Yes the No Crack is wonderful too, my daughter told me about that, she is an RN in surgery and the doctors use it for their hands which are scrubbed extensively. It is good for everywhere, hands, feet, elbows, etc. You can purchase it at Restoration Hardware and they probably also have a site online. You only have to use a small amount.
Aquaphor is good too. Lots of good choices, hope something works for you.
It's getting that time again, dry dry dry

All of the suggestions are great. You can also try
jojoba oil...it's light and non greasy
cocoa butter...feels and smells nice
vaseline....cheap and a very small amount
strivectin...i use it for stretchmarks as well, but the minty tingle soothes dryness
aquaphor...great in small amounts
body butters...from the body shop are rich, creamy and smell nice
eucerin...greasy and for cracks in skin and minor burns
coconut oil..smells nice and gives a healthy glow
cheers to moisturized skin style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/coffee.gif

hi, i have very sensitive skin and just started using "olay sensitive moisture therapy lotion". it doesnt have an spf but i have found it to be very good. i think the product that barefut mentions is an udder cream called "udderly smooth"used on dairy farms. you can find it at most stores now including hardware, pharmacy and grocery stores. it became very popular when shania twain mentioned that she uses it, lol.
when it gets really cold out i slather on avon basics cold weather nourishing face cream before going for a walk.

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jump.gif Hi I also use cocunut oil, it is excellent and not to harsh for the skin of your face.To wash I use a prepared wash in a bottle called E45 body wash, it is vey good and has the same ph as the skin.I have a malar rash most day's and I am prescribed factor 60 everyday for that, but I also have eczema and now another skin complication Hydradentis suppurativa, which is abscesses due to my poor immunity due to SLE.I also use vaseline it is very good and goes far, style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hugbetter.gif Take care.I am also allegic to perfumed skin care products and especially to anything made by Avon, always do a skin test area on your arm first with anything that is new for you..

Thank you for all your replies.there are some great products mentioned
someone suggested I try using vaseline after bathing. not drying off . and putting the vaseline on to wet skin to seal in the moisture.. I have tried it twice and it seems to be working.. if it doesn't continue I will try some to the products mentioned.. the udder cream was suggested by a farmer who always has cracked hands from the cold and wet work in the barn. so I am going to try that I my hands

First off the methods that you listed for heating have a large effect on this. This type of heat causes very dry air in the house and can dry out everything around it.
Putting some humidity back into the air is helpfull for this and can be done in several ways.
If a home humidifier is out of the question then a simple kettle or pan of water next to the heat source such as a wood stove will help some to get moisture back in the air and has the added benifit of always having hot water for that nice cup of tea.
Next a product that my derm recommends is Eucirin- not the stuff in the bottle it is a watered down product but the stuff in a tub. It looks and feels alot like your favorite shortening and we call it Crisco at home.
It goes on think and does a fantastic job of sealing in moisture.
After you clean your face just pat it dry and then apply the product.
Patting gets the surface moisture off but will not remove all moisture from the skin.
it may leave your face looking a little geasy but if you have been using vasaline I figure that will not matter so long as it helps the condition.
Soaps can be very hard on the face and so can some waters depending on the water and how hard it is and the mineral contents in it.
Our derm has told us that if you do use soap he recoomends Dove since it is the mildest commonly marketed soap that has been tested.
He has told us that there are other specialty soaps out there that cost alot more and either do the samething or are not as good but cost alot more.
He recommends that all of his patients use it and only it for any cleansing that they do. He has told us that the Antibacterial cleaners that are out are some of the harshest on the skin and should be avoided unless you use a antibacterial cleaner for your hands after some very nasty job that you feel has alot of bacteria for some reason but for any other washing a good cleaning with Dove is all that is needed.
If these do not work then there are other products that a Doctor can prescribe that are very fast but may have a side effect of thinning the skin such as many of the stronger steriod creams that are out.

First I have to say that I feel for you.. second I just wanted to thank you for posting this..the last few weeks my skin has been so dry my clothes hurts on. When I use cream...such as body butters I feel like someone poured gasoline on me and lit it up..burns like you wouldn't believe.. Im at the end of my ropes and cant handle even putting on cream..too painful.. I'm going to try regular vaseline which I haven't yet but Im just wondering if I put it on at night after a shower will it be greasy still in the morning when I need to get dressed for work?

HI Feelingtired
I like you name as I always feel that way and it says it all
I have tried everything suggested almost
the two that work the best for me is the vaseline or baby oil, I but it on after a bath or shower on my wet skin. and also put baby oil in the bath, I find my skin absorbs it all and there is no left over to make you skin feeling greasy, the next day. I actually find the baby oil works the best.I thought it would block my pores but doesn't .
good luck . it is a terrible feeling when you feel itchy and sore all them time
let me know how it works for you

I use the old timey, tried and true Avon Skin So Soft bath oil (www.avon.com) in the original scent/formula after shower/bath. They sell a bath oil spray, which I mist on after showering, then I towel off. Works better than any lotion I have tried. I'm sure it's like the baby oil you mentioned, but it isn't quite as heavy feeling.
I also use an all natural soap that I buy here in Colorado locally. This seems to have made the biggest difference of all. They also offer an unscented, all natural, detergant free product. Go to castlerocksoap.com. It seemed a little expensive at first, but when I didn't have to go through half a bottle of body lotion after every shower, it was cheaper in the long run.
Here in Denver, we are high desert, and the air is always dry. My place in the mountains is at 10,000 ft elevation, even dryer. Turn on the heat in the winter, and I begin to look like a reptile. I can relate to your situation. Great topic, and lots of good ideas! Tracy (aka itchy) style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rotfl.gif

just a few thoughts...
this time of year in the northern hemisphere is bad for those of us with dry skin...winter cold, wind, having the heat on...
i think the optimal humidity for a home is like 50%...not enough moisture for mold/fungus growth...enough moisture for your body...
of course, drinking plenty of water is also very important...limiting beverages like coffee...
sometimes the type of water in your home can be harsh...a water softner can help if your water is hard...
short tepid showers...no more long scalding hot showers...or hot baths...
when my hands get really dry, at night before bed, i slather vaseline on them, then put clean cotton socks over them...

I don't know if anyone in the past has mentioned this brand on here but Kiehls is an unbelievable company that makes face products, body creams, sunscreens... everything, check it out and www.kiehls.com
I use there Intensive Treatment for Dry or Callused Areas Cream on my hands because I get these unusual slits down near my fingers that no dr has been able to prescribe a cream for me to get ride of them and THIS WORKS!!!! I would use more of their products except it's very expensive (only drawback) and right now I am going to school and don't have a job so the whole product line just woudln't fit into my budget!!
Hope it helps!! Before buying I am sure you could always ask if they coudl send some samples...I noticed improvement in a matter of a few uses!!

Have you tried BIO OIL? It's really good for dehydrated skin, scars and stretch marks. Works wonderfully on my dry face. Only 12 euro for bottle that lasts awhile.

Hello, My daughter in med school was told that the best thing for moisturizing skin is to put unscented Vaseline over moist skin. I do that every night on my legs. I was concerned that my sheets would get oil-stained, but they don't. In fact, by morning my legs are dry again.
I keep a little jar of Vaseline by the bathroom sink so that I can apply it (almost) every time I wash my hands. It helps a lot.
I can remember using Bag Balm when I was younger. My dermy suggested Aquaphor, but when I saw that that active ingredient was petroleum jelly, I decided Vaseline is a LOT cheaper.
Did you get enough suggestions, Carol? style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif Hope you find something that works for you! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/flowers.gif Let us know, please, what you find.

Thank you for all your answers.
I have found after trying many products that baby oil applied after a bath and vaseline in between works the best for me.. I don't feel like ripping off my skin any longer.. itching dry skin can be the worst
have a great day everyone
I use Estee lauders DAY WEAR PLUS CREAM SPF 15. It is exspensive$38.00 1.7oz. but It only takes a little bit and it last a long time!I have been using the same jar for 3 months. It makes my skin silky smoth and smells very fresh(cucumber scent) and clean, not like perfume. I have tried so many creams/lotions and this is the one for me.I have dry/sensitive/ red style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops.gif skin on my face and I can use this in the combination formula and it works great without any irritation! They also have it in a formulation for dry skin.It is rich and wonderful. At first I thougt, there is no way I'm spending that much on a cream. But when you find something that works,it is worth it. Plus you can buy it whenever they have value sets and/or gift with purchases(you can get some really good deals this way) at Belk,Dillards,Macy's or Estee Lauder.com.GOD BLESS AND GOOD LUCK!!!!! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wiggle.gif

The one thing i do that i hav'nt saw here
is to heat a little vasoline before applying
then really glob it on hands & feet. be sure
you have socks & gloves near by, and a
good pair of houseshoes so you don't slip & fall.
worked wonders for me. i have nice feet now.
you get a pretty good foot rub while applying to.
they say foot flexology helps, so i really rub hard.
