Hi everyone,

I am still unsure as to wether or not i should post this question here. I would hate to upset anyone, i understand that when pregnant we are very sensitive to certain issues.

I have APS and my daughter was stillborn at 37 weeks in april this year. I never knew i had APS until the post mortem revealed that my baby had died from clots in the placenta. Since then my husband and i have been trying to conceive. It has been 7 months, my doctor asked if i would have 3 months of ovulation blood tests done. These were all unfortunately negative. He has offered me clomid. Whilst i am very eager to take the clomid, start ovulating and have a little hope for conception, i am aware of the risks of mulitple pregnancies when taking clomid. My next pregnancy will be treat as a high risk pregnancy due to the loss of my daughter. My question is this. Would it be too difficult for my body to carry multiples with having APS?

Does anyone with APS have an experience of this? I know im asking a question that could have a different answer for people in all different situations. (I guess it would help to know my blood count thingy? Im confused now anyways so ill leave it with you lovely ladies)

love alixxx

Dear Ali,

Welcome! I'm very sorry about your daughter style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hugbetter.gif . It is good that you know the reason now though.

I'm afraid I can't tell you how multiple pregnancy would affect APS, but multiple pregnancy is always more risky that one at a time. Where are you being treated? Are you in the UK? If so, is it possible for you to be seen at a specialist clinic? St Thomas's in london has a special pregnancy clinic for APS and lupus. If you can't get there, your doctor could contact them for advice.

Try this web site:

www.hughes-syndrome.org

(sorry, I don't know how to make it a link)

Treatment for APS drastically improves your chances of a succesful pregnancy next time, so hang in there style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/flowers.gif

Most people with APS don't have Lupus, so unless you get symptoms of lupus, don't worry about it. You are very welcome on this forum though. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/goodvibes.gif

All the very best,
let us know how you are getting on! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/clover.gif

Hey cath!

thanks for your lovely reply, im glad im still welcome to post here, dont really know where i belong at the moment. Normal ttc boards dont tend to have sections for syndromes. I am in the UK yes. I have heard about the care at st thomas's in london but unfortunately im in the north and really cant afford the trips down there. I will mention it to my doctor though thanks. I am currently on baby aspirin and when i get a positive pregnancy test (when not if...i keep telling myself) i will have daily heperin injections.

Thanks for the link...its permenantly in my favourites! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bigsmile.gif

Ive just gotta wait until the 12th now which is when my consultant is back off holiday and he will make a desision on the clomid. I hope its not too much of a risk to take.

Thanks again love ali xxx

HI
I can tell you my story and it may help... I lost my baby girl at 30 weeks, (still birth). That is also when i found out I had APS. My husband and i had been trying for 3 years when I had her. I kept trying I was on clomid I took 300mg a day for 9 days. The risk of multiples with clomid are really slim. After 3 more years I got pregnaet with my son (who is now almost 2). The shots you will have to take really are not that bad. And in my case every thing worked out. I also have type 2 diabetes and I also got preclapsea. My doctor took him at 35 weeks because I lost my sight but he is happy and a healthy boy.

In my case everything went graet and I fill as if yours will to. Now that they now that you have APS they can treat it and you can have a baby. I'm also preatty sure that it is really reare to have multiples with clomid as long as you show that you don't ovulate without it.

I hope that my help you.
Best wishes and if you don't mind let me know if you have a baby.... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/foryou.gif
