View Full Version : How Do You Make Yourself Feel Better

They say that the mind can only process one thought at a time, soooooo......Last night I sat on my bed and went thru all my crochet magazines thinking I'd start a 'lupus afghan'....something bright, colorful and cheerful. I can work on it when I'm in the pits or I can work on it when I'm feeling better...either way, I won't be thinking about myself as much or my hurtin' bod.
What do you all do to bring yourself out of the dumps or make yourself feel better? I used to eat all the wrong things (cookies etc) just to relieve my mind and stress. I'm trying not to do that anymore.
Sending you all hugs from 70 degree Florida today!

Hi, lately I am working very, very hard on keeping in contact with people as a way to make myself feel better. I'm going through a very rough patch with pain and depression. Chocolate nauseates me. Food in general tastes horrid. That's probably a good thing. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif But I'm making a major effort to go to my exercise class twice a week. It's intended for people "living with illness" and has made a huge difference in my life. Those women have become my friends and a true support group. I may not be able to do any of the exercise movements, but just going and sharing the energy there makes me feel better.
Good luck,
Sunny

I actually have many ways of coping that sometimes work... sometimes don't
When I am really sick I find ways to think of other things.. I am not sure how I do it but I have ways in my mind of just blocking stuff out or ignoring.. doesn't always work..
I also take baths, rest, veg out on something like an old movie that makes me feel good or laugh to take my mind off my pain, etc...
Sometimes it works... sometimes it doesn't..
It is really hard because I find myself limited in what I can do now. I used to really love to go driving or take a long walk or just go outside and sit, etc... those things are quite possible now..
I also use to like shopping therapy.. but with no money and limited mobility that also has gone to the wayside style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif
I use to love to do a lot of other things but because of various reasons which I won't go into I can't do that either.
style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wavey.gif hi
i meditate to relax and clear my head - it's great for stress style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif
i also watch the birds that visit the seed feeders for ages when i get the chance style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif
i also use what i call the 50% rule when i get up i ask myself what i want to do today - then decide to half the things i want to do - then i do what i can - it works most of the time

It's funny when someone says something that just CLICKS.....the 50% rule did just THAT. My biggest problem that I keep repeating is doing more than I can and finding it out later. Tomorrow I will start the 50% rule! It is brilliant! thanks.

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wavey.gif hi rox
glad you liked the idea of the 50% rule style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif as i said it usually works but i still have to be strict with myself especially on my good days when i feel i could take on the world but we all know that feeling don't we style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif
today was one of the days when i had to use the less than 50% rule. i went to bed at 10.30 and apart from getting out of bed to visit the loo i slept solidly till midday so today can be classed as a 0% rule day but what the heck it gave me a chance to catch sight of a little wren that was busy flitting around our garden style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif
take care and i hope the 50% rule works for you style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif
