Hi,

Not been here for a while, I am currently 9 weeks pregnant and due to see the pregnancy clinic at St. Thomas's on the 30th Jan.

I am currently on a maintenance dose of 5mg's prednisolone, 200mgs plaquenil and .75mgs asprin (hughes syndrome). The meds I am on are quite safe during pregnancy I am assured, however if I was to flare, which is highly probable during pregnancy, I am wondering if they will increase the doses of prednisolone? Has anyone on the site had this happen? and what levels of prednisolone are considered to still be "safe"

Look forward to your replies.

Hi, I took Prednisone 50 mg and Heparin thru my whole term. Baby was born 5 weeks early, but healthy and strong for 4lbs. Obyn said because my body was stressed, somehow baby was stronger from the start. Good Luck and take care style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif Twas

Hi Sandra,

congratulations on being pg. While I was pg I was on and still am 20 mg of prednisone. I'm not sure what's considered a lot while pg but I know I always felt my best while pg. It was after I gave birth that I would go into a flair but of course eveyone is different.

Good luck and I hope you have wonderful pregnancy.

Hi Sandra. Congratulations on your pregnancy!!! I have a beautiful 4 month old and I was in a flare up when I got pregnanct one year ago. I was on 20mg of Prednisone because I had low platelets and it only got worse when I got pregnant, especially in the second trimester. The highest and safest dose, according to my Perinatologist, is 60mg of Prednisone while pregnant. I was also on aspirin but my rheumy took me off the Plaquenil just to be safe. I am now Prednisone free, I took my last dose last week. Thanks to the Prednisone, my son, who was born 5 weeks early, was a healthy 6 pounds when he was born. If he had gone full term, he would've been around 9 pounds, at least! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif

So, anyway, I am sure everything will be fine. Just make sure you have a good doctor who will keep a close eye on you. I went to see my Perinatologist every week till the last trimester and then went in twice a week for non-stress tests. She kept in contact with my Rheumatologist weekly to make sure she was up to date on everything that was going on and they made decisions together. Good luck!!!!

Hi Sandra,

Me too I just had a beautifull and healthy baby girl, being on 15 mg prednisone a day. The babys can take a lot, dont you worry to much. Because of my lupus I had a **** of a pregnancy, but when the result is finally there, all is forgoten, however clichee that may sound...

Just have faith, and it will work out for you as it did for me... Best of luck !!!!!

I also wanted to remind you that only 10% of the Prednisone goes through the placenta and it doesn't hurt the baby at all. If anything, it can help the baby develop quicker. Good luck!
