Isn't that intresting, I had read before that we are not to have alfalfa. It is now bugging me what other foods we are not supposed to have because I remember reading a list where alfalfa was one of them. The others weren't as common (not that alfalfa is that common but it is a popular suplement to take). I will try to jog my memory the next couple days here to remember where I read that!!
Is there any foods out there that you guys find make you feel better?? I know I try to have lots of fruit and veggies but haven't come across one in particular.
Anyways have a good night and stay away from the sprouts!! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif

A good reminder. We might want to think twice about anything that's left swimming in water, like mung bean shoots, especially if immuno suppressed. And very thoroughly wash/ peel everything ! Who knows who's been touching it. Sometimes bleach solution is recommended for this, but I'd just as soon peel.
I hope you are getting on well Pauline

In The Lupus Book page 185 3rd edition
"All members of the legume family contain L-canavanine but it is highly concentrated in alfalfa sprouts."
The only other supplement or food that I am aware of is Echinacea as it has been found to cause flares in lupus patients.
One place to be on the lookout for alfalfa is vitamins and supplements that are sold by vitamin and health food stores. ALL of the "natural" vitamins I looked at 3 years ago had alfalfa as a filler or base ingredient.
So I went back to taking vitamins sold in the drug stores for awhile till I found a vitamin at a specialty food store that contains no alfalfa.
Take care,
Karen

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/Thanx.gif Yay!!! Now I remember where I read about the alfalfa... in a Lupus book I bought when I was first diagnosed. Being I am moving soon I had it packed away and I forgot about it.
I find that Echinacea is another thing that you have to watch out for because it is in alot of caugh candies and added in with Vit. C in alot of places too.
Every little bit helps... and it seems everyday I'm learning new things. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbs-up.gif
