question for the guys...
so i'm assuming that you guys probably have sensitive skin...
what kind of products do you use to shave? what kind of razor? do you use a certain shaving cream? do you use aftershave? or a certain lotion?

The best luck I have is right after my shower while my skin is still warm and beard is soft. Use a good lathering soap that your skin likes. Ivory works for me but I'm sure there are better ones out there. I use the Gillette Mach 3 razor (3 blades). It has worked the best (I have tried 2 and 4 blade razors too), cordless shavers have been the worst.
Warm face, good lather, a sharp razor, and shaving every other day are the things that work for me. Anything else breaks me out and makes my rashes mad.
I use aftershave when I go out, very sparingly and just on my neck to smell good. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif My face doesn't like it very much.
I hope this helps. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/coffee.gif

I agree 100% with Tom even down to the type of razor.
i only shave every other day and ONLY after a hot shower. and no i do not use an aftershave.
i have a pretty heavy beard or i would shave less often. i used to have a full beard- it was kind of nice in that i did have to worry about shaving and it masked the butterfly too, but i have to wear a respirator at work and couldn't get a good fit with a beard.
hope that helps
Welcome to the site- i find it very helpful

Most comfortable: sometimes a Gilette Mach 3 in the shower; sometimes a Philishave (Norelco) but sometimes either can be tough because of the pain in my right elbow.
Most of the time it is OK, thank God.

my apologies if i confused any of you guys...
i know this is a forum for the guys, but i'm actually female...
the reason i asked about the shaving...i have a chronic illness where one of the most embarrassing symptoms is male patterned facial hair growth (body hair also)...
drugs slow the growth down, waxing is an option, but i'm contemplating laser treatments...and for laser treatments to be effective, i cannot pluck or wax for 6 weeks...but shaving is ok...hence the reason for my question...
i really appreciate the answers though...

Hi guys, i'm female as well, but i might have a suggestion for everyone. my best friend, she has a hair issue on her face as well and both her and her husband shve with hair conditioner. i haven't tried it on my legs yet, but they say it's awesome for your face. might be worth a shot.
good luck everyone!

I hate having a beard and my wife is not to overjoyed by it. However shaving everyday is too painful (and boring). Having dark thick hair I live with permenantly looking either clean shaven or scruffy.
To shave I use a cut-throat razor and NO foam.
I would not recommend this for others but I have little or no feelings in my hands and so electric razors jump out of my grip (I have even tried trying them to my hand but it does not work and makes my grip worst for a few days). The new vibrating Gillette razors give the same problem. Standard safety razors clog up very quickly so I resort to a cut-throat.
With no feeling in my hands, I do not use foam so I can hear the scrapping sound. (If it is not scrapping then you are cutting flesh or that bit is smooth) In fact, when I have an interview or important event I will shave with my eyes closed so I can concentrate more.
For aftercare, I am old fashioned and just use WitchHazel. It stings like Old Spice, but the odour is a little more pleasant.
Cut-throat razors come in different styles and those with interchangeable blades (Use a normal blade and cut it in half with scissors) suffer in that they also get clogged up where the blade is held.
Ideally you need a hollow ground blade, but these are expensive and you occassionally need to spend the time sharpening.
The only fun is when my wife shaves me, but then she refuses the cut-throat and sticks to safety razors.
