hey all. i am ana positive without the butterfly rash. however, i have large discoid lesions on my cheeks and a big circle lesion on the tip of my nose. a biopsy confirmed discoid. i live in texas and am not photosentivie. infact the skin issues on my face and arms started in december. none of the standard lupus meds have helped. i tried the steroid cream, still nothing. currently i am taking 20 mg of pred and 150 imuran. i have seen photos of others who must be suffering alot more than i am and reconigze how lucky i am so i try and just suck it up. but it has gotten old and i have lost interest in trying to make myself presentable. i dont wear makeup, havent had my brows done since november, or been to the salon for hair or nails. i have tried derma blend but it just cakes on the sore. bare minerals makeup is not bad since it doesnt build up on the lesion. has anyone found any med or makeup that has helped???

Hi

Sorry to hear things aren't going well. I haven't had any discoid lesions in a while, but when i had mine, my dermy gave me cortisone shots right into the sore and that seemed to work.

Don't give up on yourself. Just because you've seen pictures that look worse doesn't take yours away. You are still suffering. And sometimes a little bit of pampering with the hair and nails makes you feel better even if you do have the lesions. I'm obessive with my eyebrows, so i can't imagine not keeping those up!! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

I hope you find something that works for you, but in the meantime hang in there, go get pampered!!
take care.

thanks for your advise. I am going to make an appt with the derm. I bet the shot on the end of the nose is going to hurt something terrible but I am going to go for it. I heard Bare Minerals is trying to come up with something to help "us" so I am going to check their web site. Again thanks for your encouragement.

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/coffee.gif Good Morning!!!

I too sought out the advise of a derm. She shrugged her shoulders and put me on Nicomide pill and Differen creme for my face. I never noticed any changes when taking these products, even after using it for about 3 months.

I have either been blessed with adult acne or discoid lupus, neither one was wanted. It covers my forehead like a road map of misadventures! My mom bought by Bare Minerals for my birthday and I refuse to wear any other make up! It is wonderful! I have found that it covers everything and does give my skin a nice natural look without all the caked on feeling. I have also found the places I always broke out with doesnt break out near as much. My opinoin is that Bare Minerals is worth every penny. I have never felt so beautiful before and my husband loves the change! Also, I have noticed with the Bare Minerals, it is easier to wash off the face, however, it doesn't transfer to your clothes like other make up does

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jump.gif hi

just read your posts and i am going to see a camouflage specialist tomorrow afternoon - this was recomended by a dermatologist.

i also have adult acne or roseacea and my nose and cheeks are constantly red and i often get what the derm calls postules i call them whiteheads which then get infected and i end up taking loads of antibiotics for them. i am also highly sensitive to the sun so i have loads of questions for the specialist tomorrow. i will let you know how it goes.

do you know if the bare minerals range available in the uk?

Hi IBDORTHY,
Sorry you are have the problems with the lesions. I have lesions that come up to I'm blessed they are on my head and trunk area. I did as Lesley did went to the dermatologist the last time, because I have scares on my head now . It hurt to touch .
He gave me between 45 and 50 cortison injections most of them were in my head. I will not lie it hurt but it also cleared it up. ( it was worth it to clear it up ) He upped the preds to 50 mg for a week then down by 10 each week untill I was back at 20mg . He also gave me Selseb (shampoo) and Mexar ( body wash) they both have to be put on and left for 5 min then washed off. After I dry off then I put ApexiCon Cream on the lesions. Most of them were almost gone in about 7 days of doing this .
Now I use the body wash when I flare because I always have a couple of rashes come up somewhere.
It helps keep things at bay. I have found that if I put makeup on my face when I have rashes it gets worse. Write down the names of the products I have listed here and see what your Dr thinkd they are prescrition only.
Good Luck at the Dr.
