In my opinion it's highly inadvisable, maybe dangerous, but also pointless. There are all these theories around but they don't seem to have any scientific basis.

If your body really is storing up "toxins" then you need professional medical help IMO.

These personalities who claim to have achieved whole new images usually have crazy life styles with tons of booze and general overindulgence. They also have access to personal trainers, cosmetic surgeons and beauticians and dieticians. Often they go off to a spa for a whole package of pampering, including health check ups being waited on hand and foot with only themselves to worry about

However, if you simplify your diet for a few days you will probably feel better, certainly virtuous and maybe find a healthier way of eating for life. You might well have some disturbances like flatulence, until you get used to it.
Basically only water to drink, lots of fresh fruit and salads, steamed veg, no animal fats, no added sugar no additives or preservatives. some good wholemeal breads and so on.

Learn some relaxing and destressing techniques - even the simplest breathing exercises can make a huge difference.

However I am not a dietician or doctor so this is just my personal opinion.

All the best Sheila

Hi Shelia

Clare has some good points as usual... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif You can't do better than a good healthy diet, in my opinion.
but I'd have to disagree to a point. I think that there are definate benefits to detoxifying programs....but you need to be very careful and it is definately a good idea to have a trained profesional of some sort (a nautropath) to help you through it so as to not do more harm than good. I've known several people who do "detoxes" periodically, and claim huge benefits. They are by no means "crazy" or anything like that....real people like you and me. of course, these are not lupus sufferers either...sooo.....
Don't know if that helps at all, but I do think it is something worth looking into. especially after taking lots of crazy phamaceuticals, etc. I intend to do a mellow detox in a couple of months when i finish up my cytoxan infusions....I'll let the drugs do what they're meant to for now, then I'm gonna try to get that junk out of my system!

peace,
mandy

Here is my 2 cents.

We should never ever go thru a severe detox diet. My chiropractor who was into all sorts of alternative and complimentary therapies would never let me do a detox diet all the years I was in remission. He said that my body couldn't handle it. I found this interesting from a man who totally pushed all things non-western med and yet wouldnt even discuss detox diets with me.

Changing our diets is a good thing which would do a slower "detox" in some ways. Personally I went back to eating more sugar after I came out of remission since I got sick again in spite of all the things I did. However much of our eating at home is pretty healthy. We still eat red meat because we all like it. But we don;t eat fried foods hardly at all.

I think it is a matter of finding a balance that fits your lifestyle and your pocketbook.
