Okay this is a weird question but has anyone else had a problem of home pregnancy tests not working....AT ALL???

I used to take one a month religiously as my periods were never regular to begin with, well after 3 months of getting a negative result at home I went to a doctor and received a blood test...Low and behold I was 3.5 months pregnant at that time and was 16 years old. I went on to deal with toxemia while I was pregnant but I delivered a beautiful daughter that is now 6 years old.

Okay here's my scenario now...

My periods have been regular for the last year now, but I am 2 weeks late for my latest one. I cannot get into see a doctor for another 2 weeks so I went ahead and used a home pregnancy test which of course showed a negative. I really think it could be something with myself that it keeps showing negative as I have not had any success with them at all. Has anyone ever heard of anything to do with Lupus and pregnancy that there could be a reason as to why these tests sometimes don't work???

Hi,

I have had the opposite problem, a test in the past has shown positive when I was not.

This was a few years ago, and since I have been trying to conceive and referred to a fertility clinic I have discovered that there are problems with my hormone levels. So I dont know if is connected.

Good luck

Helena

Dear Lostspyrit,

Hi style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

I'm not sure about a lupus connection, but a false negative home test can and does occur.
I've personally had one, and one of my friends who has two normal healthy kids has never ever had a positive pregnancy test.

Sometimes a test is negative if the HGG levels are low, which is something for the doc to check out maybe...

If you can't see a doc for 2 weeks, have you thought about medications and folic acid? Is there anything you are taking you might need to stop or swap? If you can, start folic acid now (which country are you in?), just in case.

Thanks to all that posted replies they were helpful. I am currently living in a small town right in the middle of Alberta (for those of you who don't know...Alberta is in Canada style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif )

Good news about if I am, I spoke with the father and he calmed me down quite a bit. He's extremely supportive and figures we'll use a home pregnancy test and then to reassure me we are going to the clinic together in order to get a blood test. If we are going to have a baby then we're going to work on saving up money and make further plans, etc. It helps having him be here as I've gone thru pregnancy by myself once already, he's also 32 and was a nurse so he knows what he's talking about when it comes to all this....lol (I actually first met him when I was in the hospital ready to have my daughter)

I will keep you all posted on what the news is when I get it....
