I just read in a people magazine from the local newspaper that Seal (married to beautiful V.S model, Heidi Klum) someone asked if his facial 'dimpling' was from some sacrificial taboo (who the heck thought of that??? style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif ) well the real answer was that Seal suffered from Discoid Lupus when he was young and left scars on his face. ..I thought that was interesting because i always thought those were acne scars...

I read the same thing, and unfortunately, we need celebrities like him to help spread the word about lupus. I like his singing, bit Ive never heard him say anything about lupus. Just thought I"d add my 2 cents worth. Joanne

Seal is very much alive ! Just had a baby with Heidi Klum. He came out about his discoid lupus several years back, after being rather mysterious about the origin of the scarring leading to all sorts of wild speculation including that he had been bitten by wild animals including a wolf inerestingly, because it's from discoid lesions that lupus got its name , Lupus erythematosis, " Red Wolf": nothing to do with malar rash.
Good thing they didn't remind people of rat bites or I guess we have Red Rat disease
Very nice to be able to make a glamourous feature of it, I must say.

Unfortunately we not only need to get people like this talking about Lupus we need to get them screaming about it, waving banners and jumping up and down. Until we get some noise level we will never be the new pet project for the government, drug industry or medical community.
Another case of the squeeky wheel gets the grease.
We need everyone we can get that can get any type of public spotlight to start talking about this and critisizing the fact that so little research is being done. We do have a few organazations who are looking at stuff but it could get alot better.

I agree that we most definately need to get the word out about Lupus. I was hoping that when the Today show did their thing that would help bring it more to the publics attention, but I have yet to see it. Again, I am hoping that it is just a slow thing and not a forgotten thing.
I was under the impression that Seal had gotten his scars from an auto accident, and was surprised to find out otherwise. I had missed the article clip in Sundays Parade Magazine, however, my husband didn't. I would hope that he would use his "connections" to bring more light to Lupus.

yes seal is mentioned to,in the book,,,, talking aobut lupus,
he as a great voice,,got his music,, love him,,,,, there are alos other ppl named in that book to, !!
We need to give credit where it's due. The Today Show tribute and charity donation was very big as millions of people watch that show every day.
Just a few articles I found searching show how others are helping us in different ways.

oh yes! i almost forgot that the ANTM Mercedes had lupus. when she came out on TV and towards her frriends/competitors i was like whaaaa....awesme though that she is great example to the newly diagnosed that Lupus doesn't automatically mean that if you have lupus , that's it, your life is doomed. (that's how i felt when i was first diagnosed)
