What can you say about having breast implants when you have lupus?

It is contraindicated because of the risk of worsening the disease by boosting the immune syatem as it attempst to reject the foreign substamce thus leading to further autoimmune activity.
Although nothing has ever been proven in court there are numerous cases of lupus or lupus like illnesses apparently being triggered by implants. As class action was brought against the manufacturers.
Take good care to keep as well as you can be

Hi,
I've heard the same thing about breast implants being responsible for some lupus patients. I wouldn't risk any kind of cosmetic surgery with this disease. My doctor didn't even like me being on birth control pills because of the increased hormones.

I HAVE TO SAY MYSELF, NOT BEING A BIG BREASTED PERSON, THAT I HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT IT TOO, BUT THEN CONCLUDE, I HAVE TOO MANY HEALTH ISSUES NOW, NOT WILLING TO RISK ONE MORE, POSSIBLE INFECTIONS, NOT BEING ABLE TO DETECT CANCER/LUMPS, IT LEAKING AND NEEDING TO BE FIXED EVERY SO OFTEN, THE ADDITION HIGH EXPENSE OF KEEP DOING IT, AND THEN IF YOU DON'T YOU ARE LEFT WITH HANGING SAGGING BAGS. NOW WHO WANTS TO TAKE ALL THOSE RISKS JUST TO HAVE BIG BOOBS.
NOT I. I THINK THE HEALTH IN MY LIFE NEEDS TO BE 100% GOOD TO TAKE UNECESSARY CHANCES FOR LOOKS.
BUT HEY THAT IS ONLY MY OUTLOOK AND BELIEVE ME, I DO THINK ABOUT IT ALL THE TIME WHEN I GET DOWN ON MYSELF.
IT IS NOT HOW YOU LOOK, IT IS WHO YOU ARE.

Thank you so much for your replies. yes, i know that inner self/ personality and health are more important than looks. It is just sometimes, i feel so unattractive especially when I am low. First of all, I have a very bad skin because of rashes and scars that lupus give me. I used to have a flawless skin, and now, when I looked at the mirror, what i see is horrible! And then, I have breasts that are as small as that of 10 year old girl. They look just like lumps on my chest, much worse my husband's ex has very very large, huge, enormous breasts! So what do you think would I feel? style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif

And my Mom is 60 years old 5'7"and still built like a brick out house ! Try growing up in her shadow..I do mean Shadow {I was somewhere in the shadow of her boobs...haha ..I'm only 5'2" now}Mom cut my hair when I was about 16 or 17 real short...I wore dresses till it grew out so people would know I was a girl !!! Besides, Look at all those dippy starlets that have had that done...I think it destroys "brain cells" style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif Now you wouldn't want that would you ? Love yourself for what God has given you. I'm no raven beauty..But I have learned to appreciate who I am... We Love ya..With or Without Boobs ! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/halo.gif
Just make sure you weigh all the assets and debits before you make a decision...

I WANTED TO ADD ONE MORE THING TO THIS SUBJECT.
IT IS REALLY NOT BAD BEING SMALL. YOU CAN WEAR ANYTHING AND LOOK GOOD IN IT. BIGGER PEOPLE HAVE PROBLEMS WEARING THOSE CUTE LITTLE SHIRTS, ETC. YOU CAN MAKE YOURSELF LOOK BETTER BY BUYING THE RIGHT TYPE OF BRA. FREDERICKS OF HOLLYWOOD ARE EXPENSIVE BUT VERY GOOD BRAS. THEY HAVE A CLEAVAGE SUPPORT AND LIFTER IN SOME THAT PUSH YOU UP AND PADDING, ETC. THAT ADD A SIZE ON TO THE CUP. THEY HAVE GEL INSERTS, ETC. OF COURSE YOUR HUBBY WILL KNOW YOUR ACTUAL SIZE, BUT HE MARRIED YOU LIKE THAT SO THAT IS NOT AN ISSUE....BUT YOU CAN DO THINGS TO BOOST YOUR CONFIDENCE BY ADDING THINGS TO A GOOD PADDED BRA AND YOU WILL LOOK BIGGER AND BETTER IN YOUR CLOTHES. MY FRIEND ACTUALLY HAS THESE GEL BOOBS....WELL SOMETHING LIKE THAT, SHE LOOKED BIGGER AND I SAID UHHHHH.....WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE? SHE SAID LOOK AND PULLED ONE OUT IN THE LADY'S ROOM...I ALMOST FELL OVER IN LAUGHTER AND TEARS.....BUT HEY, YOU WOULDN'T KNOW SHE HAD IT UNLESS SHE TOLD YOU. SO, CHECK OUT OTHER SAFE OPTIONS THAT WILL DO THE SAME JOB.

Hi. I really like what hellos and Carla had to say. They both had some great points and advice. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif Being large breasted isn't all its cracked up to be. In a perfect world with perfect health (somewhere in the magical land of woulda' coulda' style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif ) I would have a breast reduction, myself. I would LOVE to have perky lil' thangs and be able to wear all those cute little tees and tank tops. I've tried a time or two over the years, and I just look silly and feel even sillier. (and more self conscious.)Not to mention the problem finding bras that fit right, if I can find any off the rack at all in my size. and those I do find aren't those pretty lacy jobs either. There what Hubby and I call the "Industrial Bra" ...thick and sturdy and not much to look at, but gets the job done. lol. As someone who developed early (8 yrs old) and has one of these things on since, I also now have lovely strap indention in my shoulders. And of course the worst part I'd say for me, is the terrible upper back pain caused from carrying this weight around up front. Why am I saying all this? Well, I guess to say I'm envious and would trade places with you in a HEARTBEAT!! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif And I guess thats the point, everybody has things about themselves that they don't like, or would change. The grass isn't always greener on the other side. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/goodvibes.gif Your hubby loves you for the person YOU are, who cares if his Ex was large chested? He obviously doesn't, because he loves you. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif So try not to let it get you down,.....and if you would,....wear a cute tee for me. (since I can't.) style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/flowers.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hehe.gif

hi!
A million thanks to all the encouragement I receive from here. I wish i have that same thinking everysecond of the day.
Maybe it is just because of the insecurities and low self-steem that I have. I am so insecure in many ways, feeling worthless and ugly. maybe because i have lupus and it prevented me from doing what I wanted to do. I don't know... I feel there's nothing about me that I should be proud of.

Hi, I got implants 15 yrs. ago. I already had SLE for 5 yrs. at that time. I asked my rheumy first (Dr. Wallace), and he said it was OK.The following year, implants were banned.I never had any problems that I'm aware of, I think just the natural slow progression of the disease. I have never had any hospitalizations or organ involvement, just occasional short term steroids and injections. I am on pain killers 24/7. Now ,15 yrs. later I just found out that one is leaking slightly and they need to be removed. I'm really nervous about having to get surgery again, the first experiance was very unpleasant.
Before I had implants, I had just had 2 kids, was flat as a board at 5'-10" tall and hated it. At that time they didn't have any good bras and bathing suits available like they do now.

I've been teased since i was 12 years old.
enjoy looking sexy in all the t's.
I for one could never wear one.

I would like to "weigh" in on this sugject if I may. I would love to have my breasts put back where they belong. Somehow, I do not think they were supposed to be down around my ankles, however, I also do not think that I was supposed to spend my free time in the doctors office and/or hospital. So, with that thought in mind............I spend a little bit extra on my bras to help secure them on my chest. Besides, they make a good threatening device. My hubby ticks me off and I threaten to unless the "girls".............seems I always win!! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

my two cents worth again, I have to admit , I have loved having implants the past 15 yrs.I feel so much better about my body.I used to hate trying to find a bathing suit and there were so many clothes I couldn't wear.My husband used to say they were "fine", but since they were enlarged, my husband can't keep his hands off me and has turned into a real breast man.

Hi there!
Just wanted to say I had a lupectomy a couple years ago, and since that time was DXed with Lupus. For the time being, until its all under control, Im holding off on purchasing my new set of breasts - but once things calm down, the Dr. has given me the OK!
Still up for consideration, though..
Good luck!
