Hi
I guess this isn't totally lupus related but I went for a pre-op assessment today for knee surgery. I have OA and they are going to do an arthroscopy to see whether I need a whole knee replacement or whether half of one would do. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif

They say they won't take me as a day case because of autoimmune stuff going on. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif I may still get home the same day though. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

I'm really disappointed that the waiting time for the second op is going to be about a year. I did hope it would be sooner.

Even the first one is going to be dependent on the results of an endoscopy which doesn't have a firm date yet. 'About ten weeks' the letter said.

Is this all par for the course?

Thx - Scottie

Dear Scottie

I had osteo arthritis of the knees also. I had arthescoptic surgery done on mine both of them. I had it just of the knee caps though no joints involved. I did on my right knee have something aroud the knee have something done to it not sure what really just no it hurt more and took alittle longer to recover. Well anyway i do know the pain after wards was nothing like the pain i had from beofore. In the winters it was horrifying so i am glad you are having something dones with yours. My doctor wanted me to wait more time in between both sugeries also but i wanted them done before the end of the year so they were only like 6 months a part. That was kind of a mistake really for the body trust me. You do need to recovery in between with lupus especially. So try ot be patient . The year in between will come soon enough. Good luck with the surgery whenever it mgiht be.Please post it when you know something okay. Take care until then style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hugbetter.gif .

Thank you for the encouraging replies.

If the arthroscopy lowers the pain level - I will be a happy woman! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif It's definite from the x-ray that one side of my knee is 'shot' - they just need to check that replacing that half will be enough.

I never gave much thought to recovery time being longer cos of lupus. (Haven't had surgery since dx - or maybe brain fog kicking in!)

Roll on August! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
