I don't know about your area but I live in northwest Indiana and love my rheumy. I go to Dr. Reich but I would think that is too far for you. I would look up your nearest Lupus association and check with them. Look on their website and sometimes they list area doctors that specialize in lupus and autoimmune disease. I would contact some of the members of the local lupus orginazitions and ask them. I hope this is of some help to you. Good luck finding a great dr. and let us know how you are getting along.

My midwest geography is really bad so forgive me if these suggestions are a great distance from you.
One is the Cleveland Clinic which has a good lupus department and the other is Indianapolis also has a good lupus doctor or two. If you go the Cleveland Clinic route make sure you are seeing a lupus specialist in their rheumatology department as not all their rheumy's specialize in lupus. You could do a little legwork by going to their website and then google each rheumatologist to see what research they are or have been involved with.
