Looking for rheumatologist in Oakland, CA

I am looking for referrals here in Oakland Ca. I just moved here from Chicago and although my benefits do not begin until June 1 style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doh.gif I need to choose between three providers and it would be helpful to have some names of rhummies to see which ones are on the provider list.

Depending on your area the lupus foundation is sometimes good and sometimes not. The lupus support groups in your area will be under the Lupus Alliance and not the lupus foundation I am pretty sure. I know that San Francisco is under the Alliance. http://www.lupusalliance.org/

Sometimes the best way to find a good doctor for treating lupus is to go to the local lupus support group - the members will often know who is good and who is not. There are doctors that treat lupus patients who aren't necessarily lupus specialists and if I remember right you don't have a lot of positive blood work.

I also think there is at least one good lupus doc at UC Davis but can't remember how far that is in relation to Oakland. I also know the UCSF has scleroderma specialists so I would guess they might also have lupus specialists.
